Definition of self-study
By Hitesh Bhasin : Self-learning is defined as a method of garnering information and after processing and retaining it without taking the help
of another individual It is the responsibility of the learner to learn and hold on to the knowledge without the help of another human resource According to “Target Study”, self Study is defined as something studied
by oneself without any kind of help or supervision by a teacher or a trainer, though the person studying may take help of some external sources like books, tutorials, and encyclopedia etc, hence it would not be wrong to say that it is a form of study in which the student himself is responsible to a large extent for his one's own instruction and is himself his teacher There is no one to tell him or to guide him to do something
Trang 5or the other It may also be defined as "learning on your own" or "by yourself" or being yourself your own teacher
The advantages of self-study
According to Grade Power Learning, students learn more
effectively Exploring a topic on his or her own encourages your child to actively engage with the information Self-studiers are able to think about topics more deeply and make connections between what they are learning And when students are engaged (and excited) about what they are learning, they’re able to remember it better
Self-study also helps build study skills your child can use to explore new topics or tackle challenging schoolwork Students discover more about the topics they’re studying Self-study is all about searching out new information on a topic your child is interested in Seeking out this information themselves gives students a chance to learn more about that topic (rather than just what they are taught in class)
It can boost students’ self-esteem As students do more self-study, many become more confident learners They are able to see themselves as an independent person who is able to learn new things without anyone helping them This can be a major motivation boost for students Students can learn at their own pace Self-study allows students to take learning at their own pace, focusing on areas they are most interested in (or want to understand a bit better) This helps reduce feelings of frustration, anxiety, or boredom that students may struggle with in a classroom setting Self-study allows students to choose something they are interested in and excited to learn about, leading to a more effective learning experience
By Jana Angeles, self-studying encourages independent learning and one
of the perks of being able to undertake an online course is that it pushes you to complete the work at a time of your choosing This method of learning also encourages you to do your own research and find
information that can help you with your studies You'll get the
opportunity to do your own research to complete your assessments, which can help you become a motivated and efficient learner as you'll be taking the reins when it comes to sourcing the answers
Ever wanted to completely focus on an assessment task but felt rushed because you had to meet a pressing deadline? One of the main benefits
of self-studying is that you get to learn at your own pace Similarly to the
Trang 6world of online learning, this also applies when you study an online course
Self-studying promotes independence when it comes to your learning but it also pushes you to become a better problem-solver When you're
an independent learner, you're left to your own devices in terms of researching the information and finding resources that can help you complete work in a timely manner
You'll receive support from a dedicated trainer and have a Student Support consultant checking in to see how you're progressing with your studies Many of their alumni students say that access to these support services has been beneficial to their course, providing them with the momentum to progress with their studies and complete their
qualification in a timely manner
Self-studying requires you to thoughtfully plan ahead when it comes to your learning and in order to make it work, you need to know how
to manage your time and priorities This type of learning is more self-directed and less reliant on having the guidance of someone else to do the work
Self-studying provides the opportunity for you to be self-motivated and persistent, helping you own your autonomy when it comes to your studies For some, this may be difficult to do so the assistance
of productivity apps could be useful

on the internet Educational videos can boost the academic capalibity of child because by seeing videos, learning becomes very fun
4 Read and Practice Past Questions : Self-study is more effective when you read and practice It is one of the best ways to develop yourself Practice past questions to aid your study
In conclusion, students can study without the supervision of anyone A child can complement the formal education of schooling to learn with self-study through advanced technologies to access valuable materials for improvement
We found some advantages from succeeds of people who had
awareness on self study Besides , we got some experiences of the self study and some the methods to improve ability of self study Thus , we decided to choose the topic : ‘’The impacts of a part-time job on self-study among English- majored sophomores at Faculty of English, Hue University of Foreign Language’’
The effects of part-time jobs on self-study
By Ereen Nasir, this issue has become more and more apparent in our society today More than just being apparent, it has also become a dilemma for many students
Pros
The good thing about getting a part-time job while studying is that money isn't the only thing you earn while working There are also great opportunities that you can gain with first-hand experience in the marketplace that can prepare you for the real working world
Learn to work with and for others instead of confining yourself to a solitary pursuit of learning Who knows you might even gain some experience in the field you want to venture into upon graduation If you can find the right job, it will give you an invaluable head start in your career and you will have an edge upon graduation
If you are an international student looking to work part-time while studying, you will experience the language, culture and lifestyle of the people in your chosen destination – firsthand Working abroad will give you a completely different experience than when you work in your home country
Trang 8Cons
One of the downsides of working on your studies is that it takes up a lot
of time As a student, this is one of your greatest assets, especially as your course becomes more challenging - you'll need to allocate more time in your day for study and revision Besides, the bad truth about part-time jobs is that you'll rarely find one that will spruce up your CV and allow you to miss a few business days to meet deadlines
Balance between self-study and part-time work
By Christopher Taylor, PhD , there are steps you can take to find the perfect balance of working and studying
Look for job opportunities within your department
Working for the department in which you are studying is also a great way
to expose yourself to the faculty and students in the department, and stay-up-to-date on any opportunities relevant to your course of study Get a "study" position Many colleges and universities offer work-study positions that provide the perfect opportunity to work and work-study
at the same time Some of these positions are associated with a financial aid award that goes directly towards your expenses as a student, and some are jobs that are only open to student applicants
Evaluate the number of hours you can work each week If you're spending time, money, and energy on your studies, then it should probably be your work priority The important point is that you should make an honest assessment of how much time you can spend working Fortunately, you have a wide selection of job types to consider
If you're studying within an extremely competitive program wherein your success will likely determine the quality of the job you get, it's likely worth prioritizing your studies Depending on your discipline, the job you'll end up landing could potentially make short work of your debt Remind yourself of the benefits of work experience
Even if your work and studies are completely unrelated, work is still providing you with experience prioritizing responsibilities,
communicating, etc
