1.3 Global impact
1.3.1 The influence of global impact on international relations
Global impacts, especially in today's era of globalization, have been profoundly changing relations between countries Factors such as economics, politics, society, culture, and environment are all closely linked on a global scale, creating opportunities for cooperation but also posing many new challenges
Economy
Globalization promotes free trade, establishes global supply chains, and increases interdependence between countries This creates numerous opportunities for development but also intensifies fierce competition for markets and resources Nations are compelled to seek cooperation for mutual growth Additionally, economic crises can spread rapidly, affecting many countries around the world
Politically
Global issues such as climate change, terrorism, and epidemics require close cooperation between countries However, differences in interests, ideologies, and cultures
Trang 109 can lead to conflicts and geopolitical tensions The rise of new powers also shifts the balance of power in the world, creating challenges and changes in international relations Socially
Globalization promotes international migration, leading to the creation of multicultural communities At the same time, popular culture spreads rapidly across the globe, raising concerns about the preservation of national cultural identity Additionally, globalization can increase inequality both between countries and among different groups within the same country
Environmentally
Climate change is one of humanity's greatest challenges, requiring international cooperation to address Additionally, industrial production activities worldwide contribute
to environmental pollution, affecting health and ecosystems on a global scale
1.3.2 The impact of globalization on world historical developments
Changing World Order
Globalization has facilitated the rise of emerging economies like China and India, altering the balance of global power International organizations such as the United Nations, WTO, and IMF are becoming increasingly significant in addressing global issues, forming a new world order grounded in cooperation and international law Cultural Exchange
The spread of Western popular culture, especially through media and the internet, has significantly influenced traditional cultures While cultural exchange can yield many benefits, it also generates conflicts and disagreements regarding values and beliefs Economic Development
Globalization has opened up numerous business opportunities, promoting economic growth in many countries However, it also exacerbates the disparity between the rich and poor, both among nations and within them
Changing Concept of Security
Trang 1110 Non-traditional security issues, such as climate change, terrorism, and epidemics, have emerged as new global security challenges Additionally, advancements in information technology have given rise to cyberwarfare, a new form of conflict
Environmental Impact
Globalization contributes to increased production and consumption activities, leading to the greenhouse effect and climate change Furthermore, industrial and transportation activities are significant sources of air, water, and soil pollution
IL Important Historical Events
2.1 Global Significance
The French Revolution (1789-1799)
The French Revolution marked a turning point in history, overthrowing the monarchy and dismantling the rigid class system in France It promoted the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity, spreading democratic values like popular sovereignty and human rights These ideas influenced revolutions across Europe and independence movements in Latin America, challenging the existing power structures Globally, it laid the groundwork for modern democratic governments and contributed to the decline of imperial monarchies, reshaping political ideologies across continents
World War I (1914-1918)
World War I was a devastating conflict tnggered by nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and a complex alliance system The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand sparked the war, which involved unprecedented trench warfare and mass casualties The war led to the collapse of several major empires (Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, German, Russian), the redrawing of national boundaries, and the rise of the United States as a global power The Treaty of Versailles placed heavy reparations on Germany, which fueled economic and political instability, setting the stage for World War
H
World War IT (1939-1945)
World War II, driven by the rise of fascist regimes in Germany, Italy, and Japan, was the most destructive conflict in history It involved widespread global participation
Trang 1211 and introduced devastating military operations, including the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki The war also saw the Holocaust, where six million Jews were killed in one of history’s worst genocides Its aftermath reshaped the world, leading to the decline of European empires, the establishment of the United Nations, and the beginning
of the Cold War between the U.S and the Soviet Union The war also accelerated decolonization movements, particularly in Asia and Africa, and global institutions like the IMF and the World Bank were created to stabilize the post-war economy
2.2 Regional Significance
Vietnam War (1955-1975)
The Vietnam War changed the politics of Southeast Asia in a major way This long and painful conflict, after having ended, made Vietnam a united socialist state A state that
at first was closed off eventually began to open up to work together with the regional economy It was doing so by joming and participating in various bodies, with ASEAN becoming the leading regional body for integration and cooperation The consequences of this war did not remain confined to its immediate vicinity but extended to the surrounding territories In fact, as a matter of fact, the very effort at consolidating vast expanses of territories was this war Especially the two territories named Laos and Cambodia soon became part of the darkness and multiple issues resulting from the ongoing war In fact, it actually contributed to the very conditions that gave rise to the Khmer Rouge government
in Cambodia, which is universally noted as being one of the most violent regimes in recent memory The violence stemming from this base ultimately led to one of the worst genocides to have been viewed throughout the 20th century, with one of the largest losses
of life and suffering imaginable
The result of just this part alone made the end of the war look like a big victory for many communist groups that were littered across the region This would go on to have quite a strong effect on many rebellion movements happening in many parts of Southeast Asia The apparent success it achieved not only sparked similar movements throughout neighboring countries but also convinced the non-communist nations to make a strong move to create their anti-communist stance Such a stance was formed largely with massive input from the United States, bringing about a complex geopolitical situation where the levels of military and political tension are very high All of these pieces fit together in a connected series, forming a sort of "Domino Theory” when implemented—a term that came from the variety of fears and strategies popular at the time
