I INTRODUCTION

1.1 Introduction to the internship program at Thu Dau Mot University

For an English learner, working in a multi-language environment where communication among workers is considered to be essential, is an opportunity to exchange, improve, and repair the necessary amount of knowledge for further

advancements in their careers Internships in schools and universities stimulate students to identify their future careers, as they can find their to-go jobs and develop

or have their essential skills harnessed while working as an apprentice (Knouse & Fontenot, 2008) On the other hand, it is provided that employers may be beneficial

when opening internship courses to look out for talented workers (Mollica, 2020) since they can diversify their workforce and hire workers at a faster pace, therefore

providing condensed productivity (Kenyon, 2005)

Provided with the aforementioned factors, Vietnamese universities tend to

provide students with apprenticeships to help them get used to the working environment and prepare the major skills such as cognitive thinking or other team-

working related skills like time management or effective communication skills Furthermore, working for an employer gives learners chances to show their perspectives of their majors and jobs and their knowledge and experiences towards a field of work After finishing a proper amount of time, students are required to accumulate what they have done and achieved while working for the employers into

a piece of paper, namely "reflective writing" Therefore, this paper was written with the aim of the author to introduce to the lecturers the experiences that the author has

collected throughout the time spent at Nam Sao Language School

1.2 Workplace introduction 1.2.1 Information about Nam Sao Language School Nam Sao Language School, also known as Five Star International Education

Development Investment Joint Stock, was established in 2017 Up to now, the center

has 5 campuses spreading from Binh Duong Province to Thu Duc City The center's objective is to become a trustworthy source of English providing center, with the mission of providing high-quality English courses and lessons updated regularly and suitable for everyone With a well-trained, loyal, and dedicated staff, Five Star

English Center always tries to build professional and sufficient benefits for all human

resources, including teachers, staff, and teaching assistants

In general, the campus is divided into two departments, namely the human

resources department and the services department, with the former taking the responsibilities to manage the educative problems such as the learning resources,

teaching quality, and student status, while the latter is in charge of parental-related

factors and student enrollments Several tasks can be named such as reporting the

students’ grades and daily learning behaviors to their parents, supporting and giving

advice to parents who are confused about learning quality and courses, and so on

During this time, there are many events as well as activities such as trading points for gifts, taking field trips, and many policies that provide customer services

to strengthen the bonds between the customers and the center, creating a sense of attraction for many parents who are looking for a professional English center for their children to develop

As an English major junior, the author's aim was to support and cover teachers and academic coordinators in simple and complex tasks, using hisEnglish knowledge

in teaching and teaching assisting activities, creating exercises and making lesson

plans In this second internship, the author got to take part in many activities which

he could not do during the first internship This was a chance for him to improve and

exchange his profession and he was always willing to face a challenge with the help

of his senior co-workers to find out the best solution to handle it

ll INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

2.1 Overview

As a requirement of the second internship at Thu Dau Mot University and a

proper chance to get used to the working environment, students will have 23 days to

work in a specific business workplace where English is mostly used in activities

Companies, stores, malls and English centers are suitable places that one may apply

to There, students will have to take advantage of the language skills and the knowledge they have collected in classes Furthermore, they can also improve other

crucial abilities besides the ones for their major, like oral communication, time management, and problem-solving With each day, students are recommended to

make a daily report about the activities and problems they have had to make sure that

there is proof of progress Pictures and videos of achievements are suggested to be added to the paper to increase the reliability of the paper They will also need to prepare a video describing about their experiences gained after the internship

In this chapter, the author gave a report consisting of the daily report focusing

on the activities and the products that the author has made, which will be displayed

throughout the overview and the appendices table As a result, the students could identify their strengths and weaknesses to improve and develop via these daily

reports The daily report will be selected, as the author’s internship took place three

days a week, and the activities focused mainly on teaching

Provided that they work as a teacher, students in English centers should get involved with lesson plans and exercises To meet the requirements, the students

participating in the company’s activities are expected to use English frequently In a

teaching environment such as an English center, the range of vocabulary varies from lower to higher level, requiring the users to have a clear understanding of the vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures as well as decent pronunciation

2.2 Daily report

2.2.1 First week (From 11/06/2024 to 16/06/2024)

The first week of the internship was used by the apprentice to listen to the supervisor’s instructions in the Nam Sao Language School about the involvement of

activities Many new aspects needed to be covered, including the working system and the resources for language teaching There, the author took notes on the regulations and tried to have a proper look at the capacity of the English books During classes,

teachers could use accessories such as flashcards, lesson powerpoints, and toys to fulfill the hours of teaching, producing excitement for students to learn

In the evening, the apprentice was instructed to take on back-up classes, a combination of students in various English levels, from FF (using the First Friends

American English books) to KET & PET (using the Prepare! English books) As a

result, it is vital that the work requires certain levels of English to teach and a quick

reaction to check on students, the teachers need to use the language properly so as nol

to create ambiguity for the students

2.2.2 Second week (From 17/06/2024 - 23/06/2024)

In the second week, the author could get into more chores and work requiring educational skills such as creating lesson plans and homework for students who needed to revise their vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures for the upcoming regular tests In terms of creating, the author had to create the work according to the current book that one studied

This test was based on the last 5 units of Prepare! Level 2 book, focusing on both vocabulary and grammar structures For the writing part, the author used the

suggested writing topic on the Internet with writing instructions so that the student

might get used to the writing points

Moreover, the author took part in other office activities, which included revising

lesson plans and making contact with the students’ parents to check on students’

learning status Though there were difficulties at first, the author was able to adapt and create more fluent conversations
