Description
Outline
The NGC engine features in-line 3-cylinder, 12-valve, DOHC,
timing chain drive and electronically-controlled multi-point fuel
injection system It is mainly composed of cylinder block,
cylinder head, crankshaft, connecting rod and camshaft, etc
Cylinder Head
The cylinder head is of DOHC type containing 2 camshafts
which utilize the hydraulic valve lash adjuster to open 4 valves
of each cylinder The camshaft sprocket is fitted on the
front end of the camshaft The cylinder head is a die-casting
aluminum alloy piece to provide a strong hardness and a light
weight The combustion chamber of the cylinder head is
designed for improving the compression and vortex efficiency,
so as to maximize the gasoline combustion efficiency
Cylinder Block
The cylinder block adopts the aluminum alloy structuremade by high-pressure casting die, containing 3 in-line castingcylinder sleeve The cylinder block has four crankshaftbearings The thrust bearing is the second bearing countingfrom the back of the engine The cylinder block adopts along-skirt design (the lower part of cylinder block extendedbelow the crankshaft centerline) to ensure the service life ofthe cylinder block
Crankshaft
With the ductile iron as the material, the crankshaft is made
by sand casting and processing It is supported by the mainbearing at four main journals The three connecting rodjournals connect to their corresponding connecting rod bigend bore and are supported by the connecting rod bearing.The main bearing and connecting rod bearing consist of two
Trang 21upper and lower folding bearing shells, which are subjected to
alternating load and high-speed friction The engine lubricant
forms an oil film in the axial clearance between the bearing
and the journal to reduce wear The thrust bearings are
located at the third main journal position of the crankshaft,
and their axial clearance is used to limit the axial movement of
the crankshaft There are also totally six fan-shaped balance
weights on the opposite side to the crankshaft connecting rod
journal, which are used to offset the first moment of inertia
formed by the movement of the piston and the connecting
rod to achieve accurate engine balance The vibration damper
rubber pulley is used to reduce the torsional vibration of the
crankshaft
Oil Pump
The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft to suck out the engine
oil from the lower oil pan and transfer the oil to each part of
the engine An oil screen is fitted on the front part of the inlet
of oil pump to filter impurities that may block and damage the
oil pump or other components of engine The chain drives the
oil pump to run when the crankshaft is rotating, forming the
negative pressure at the oil pump inlet, and the oil is sucked
into the oil pump under the negative pressure, then the oil
enters the engine for lubrication after the oil is compressed by
the oil pump and forms a certain pressure and flow rate When
the engine speed is higher than a certain value, the engine
control module will control the oil pump solenoid value to
adjust the oil pump mode, changing the displacement of the oil
pump, so as to adjust the oil pressure When the oil pump
pressure is obviously higher than the pressure required for
engine lubrication, the relief valve opens to exhaust excess oil
Valve
Each cylinder has 2 intake valves and 2 exhaust valves All the
valves are equipped with positive-pressure valve stem seal
Valve Lash Adjuster
The valve mechanism adopts a valve rocker arm under the
action of the hydraulic lash adjuster The finger-type roller
follower can reduce friction and noise
Camshaft/Camshaft Drive Device
It adopts two camshafts, one of which is used for all the intake
valves, and the other is used for all the exhaust valves The
camshaft is equipped with a steel lobe This engine design
uses a chain to drive the DOHC The chain adopts inverted
tooth or silent design, to ensure the noiseless operation, and
apply the maintenance-free hydraulic tensioning method The
tensioner has a ratchet mechanism, enabling it to reduce the
movement of the chain during the engine start, so as to reduce
the noise The light-duty plastic/composite chain guide has a
unique groove face design, enabling it to reduce friction and
obtain the optimum efficiency The crankshaft sprocket and
camshaft sprocket are processed by the quenching, which canavoid wear in case of extending the period of oil replacement
Intake Manifold
The intake manifold is the airflow passage to the cylindercombustion chamber through the throttle body, and affects theengine torque, power, noise, running performance, emission,fuel economy and performance The intake manifold is made
of composite plastic The intake manifold includes a systemused for the positive crankshaft ventilated air distribution andcontrol
Turbocharger
The turbocharger consists of turbine and compressor on thecommon shaft The shaft bearing adopts a structure withhigher revolving speed and is lubricated with engine oil Theturbocharger applies to the water cooling mode to improvethe durability The turbine impeller is driven by the exhaustemission system The turbine impeller compresses to suck
in the air A wastegate bypass valve regulates the intake airpressure to generate high pressure at low speed Under
a determined intake air pressure, it regulates the emissionmethod of the exhaust bypassing the turbine impeller Thewastegate is pneumatically and electrically controlled by thepressure in the intake manifold The wastegate is opened toreduce the exhaust emission pressure, so as to reduce theintake air pressure
Connecting Rod and Piston
The aluminum alloy thermal expansion piston is providedwith a floating piston pin fit to the clearance of the smallend of connecting rod, and both ends of the piston pin arefixed and limited by circlips Each piston is provided withtwo compression rings and one oil ring The big end of theconnecting rod moves on the bearing shell of the crankshaftjournal The connecting rod adopts forging+cracking process
Crankcase Ventilation
The crankcase ventilation system is used to consume theblow-by gas generated during the combustion process, not todischarge the blow-by gas into the atmosphere The fresh air
in the intake system is supplied to the crankcase, and mixeswith the blow-by gas in the crankcase The in-cylinder gasrises to the top of the engine, and enters the oil-gas separatorwhere the oil separates from the gas The separated oil flowsthrough the oil return valve of the oil-gas separator to thecover chamber; under different conditions, the separatedgas finally flows through the different passages to the intakemanifold and burns up
As shown, the direction of gas flow in the crankcase ventilationsystem is divided into two modes according to the operatingstate of the turbocharger: the turbocharging state andnon-turbocharging state When the turbocharger is in the
Trang 22non-turbocharging state, as indicated by the dashed lines D
and E, the gas in the crankcase enters the oil-gas separator
from the cover chamber The separated gas enters the
intake manifold for combustion through the check valve A
(to the intake manifold check valve) from the internal passage
(with throttle valve), meanwhile the fresh air directly enters
the crankcase from the intake system through the positive
crankcase ventilation pipe and the fresh air check valve C
on the oil-gas separator and the check valve B (to the intake
pipe check valve) is off When the turbocharger is in the
turbocharging state, as indicated by the solid line F, the
separated blow-by gas passes through the check valve B and

Lubrication
The engine is provided with oil for lubrication by a secondary
variable displacement oil pump 1, which is fitted at the
lower part of the oil pan and achieves the secondary variable
displacement through the solenoid valve controlled by the
engine control module The oil pumped out from the oil pump
enters the engine oil cooler 3 for cooling after being filtered
by the oil filter 2, and the filtered oil first flows into the main
oil passage of the cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rod
and piston cooling nozzle, then flows up into the oil passage
of the cylinder head, camshaft, camshaft phase actuator,
vacuum pump 5 and turbocharger The engine monitors the
oil pressure through the oil pressure sensor 4 fitted at the
intake side of the cylinder head
The crankshaft is provided with oil for lubrication by oil
passages on the surface of bearing shells; the connecting rod
is provided with oil for lubrication by oil passages connectingthe crankshaft journal and the connecting rod journal; thetiming chain tensioner is provided with oil for lubrication byoil passages on the end of the main oil duct of the cylinderblock
The camshaft is provided with oil for lubrication by oil passagesconnecting the oil passage of the cylinder head and the oilpassage between the camshaft bearing shells; the vacuumpump is provided with oil for lubrication by the oil passage
of the cylinder head at the exhaust side; the camshaft phaseactuator is provided with oil for lubrication by the independentoil passage connecting the main oil passage of the cylinderblock The turbocharger is provided with oil for lubrication
by the oil inlet pipe 6 connecting the main oil passage of thecylinder block, and the lubricated oil flows back to the oil panthrough the oil return pipe 7
