PART 1: INTRODUCTION
1 What is Tiktok?
Musical.ly was a popular short-form (15 second) video streaming and sharing app with over 100 million users till August 2018 Using a number of music and speech options offered by the application, users may lip sync and create amusing or entertaining films However, the app was purchased by Byte Dance, a Chinese company, in August 2018, and its users were transferred to Tik Tok
Tik Tok is a social media platform that focuses solely on video The app's unique video editing tools include filters, music, transitions, special animations, graphics, and more Individuals can use the basic editing tools to express themselves
2 The tendency of using Tiktok
Recently, on social networks, there are always channels building content that go against the trend, despite posting objectionable information and controversial statements to make viewers annoyed
The majority of people accessing Tik Tok are young people, psychologically viewers are often curious about new, indistinguishable content even though they are fully aware of the quality of information But this situation has not been completely resolved because even if it is reported, "banned" accounts will still have other channels with similar content springing up
3 Negative impacts of Tiktok
The survey results show that almost all students of Vinh Loc High School use TikTok regularly during the day
The most negative impact that the survey team has is that it takes time The time they use the most is up to 3 hours a day Besides the time-consuming use of TikTok, they are aware of the negative effects on their psychology and physiology due to overusing TikTok, leading to addiction
Trang 43
When they are addicted to TikTok, many people stay up late to use TikTok, leading
to cause obesity, and distraction, affecting living time, health, work, and study Besides, surfing TikTok can be addictive directly affecting students' learning time TikTok uses "offensive" ways to get more likes and shares which leads to delusional and psychological instability, often daydreaming
TikTok cannot secure user information, and the possibility of information leakage is great, user needs and purposes can all be guessed by TikTok to provide products and services The reason is that TikTok has a serious security hole that allows hackers to exploit and take over user accounts
This study will examine the tiktok usage pattern among Vinh Loc High School students, thereby demonstrating the relationship between tiktok use and its impacts
on individuals

PART 2: ANALYSIS
1 Dataset findings
Table 1-Gender of respondents
Our research included 45 males (37.2%) and 76 females (62.8%) out of a total of
121 respondents No answers are missing
Figure 1- Age of respondents
Trang 65
In this study, the survey age ranged from 15-18, of which 16 years old accounted for the largest number (70.25%) The number of votes received by the 15 year old ranked second, accounting for 15.7% It can be seen that the survey participants are between the ages of 15-16 more than 17-18
1.3 Time spent on Tiktok
Figure 2 - Time spent on Tiktok of respondents
On average, students use Tik Tok about 1.37 hours/day, similar to previous studies
US Average Time Using Tik Tok: Americans 18 and older are estimated to have spent 1.43 billion hours on TikTok in March 2020 (Adplus, 2021) TikTok says

2 In-dept analysis
2.1 The influence of Tiktok on individuals
The graphs below illustrate the results of research undertaken in Vinh Loc High school with students aged from 15-18 to assess their awareness of negative impacts caused by toxic contents on Tik Tok
Table 2 - Evaluate the impact of Tiktok on individuals
It is clear that the impact of Tiktok on users including 45 males (37.2%) and 76 females (62.8%) out of 121 respondents with no answers missing In this distribution, the mean equals 2.760 and the median equals 3.0 which does not show a great difference Moreover, the standard deviation equal to 1.1692, which is approximate
=1, further confirms that the normalized residuals follow a symmetric distribution
As witnessed from the table, the median equals mode, indicating that the most typical number is 3 This means that the majority of participants believe Tiktok only has a moderate impact on them with an average value of 3 Out of 121 respondents, ,
49 people choose that option, accounting for 40.5% 20.7% of the participants think that they are affected slightly, while 21 individuals choose option 1, meaning they
Trang 108
are unaffected by Tiktok In contrast, the percentage of people who select levels 4 and 5, which are strongly influenced or addicted to TikTok, is lower, making up 11.6% and 9.9% respectively
2.2 Frequency of Tiktok contents seen and perceived
Table 3 - Feeling about toxic contents being seen on Tiktok
The table above gives a snapshot of the reaction of respondents after seeing toxic contents on TikTok Surprisingly, among respondents who never see toxic topics before, 29% claimed that they felt annoyed, this can be explained by the popularity
of TikTok on other social platforms, therefore even if do not use TikTok, they can still see its content somewhere else While 51.6% showed no interest on the topics, only 6.5% found it interesting On the other hand, the majority (55.6%) of people said that they always came across toxic content on TikTok answered that they were bothered by them, while others had neither interest nor feeling about the topics In general, the table indicated whether people saw toxic topics on TikTok or not, these topics did not affect much on their emotions (52.9%), besides, 33.1% tended to be disturbed by them and almost nobody thought that the topics were interesting
Trang 119
2.3 Frequency of toxic topics appearing on Tiktok
Table 4 - Toxic topics on tiktok
The table shows frequencies of toxic topics appearing on Tik Tok According to collected data, videos containing fake news come into sight most frequently with 79 replies (18.4%) about these ones, followed by traditional custom violation with 68 replies (15.8%) Contents about dangerous challenges, which receive 49 replies (11.4%), rank the last Many articles and researches also show that fake news on Tik Tok is one of the thorny issues Steven Brill, founder of NewsGuard - a firm that monitors misinformation, answered in an interview with Times that: <The amount
of misinformation and the ease with which it can be found is especially troubling 4 given TikTok’s popularity with young people= (Klepper, 2022)
2.4 Action after seeing toxic topics
Based on the data in the frequency table above, we can see the frequencies of action after seeing toxic topics from students at Vinh Loc high school in the survey
Table 5 - Action after seeing toxic topics
Trang 1210
"Strongly reject" was a relatively low rate at 10.7% The reason the minority of survey respondents <strongly reject= may be because of the irrelevant to their responsibility Only 10.7% (13 students) are aware that toxic content needs removing so they take action to protect our social media from becoming a better place for people to learn At the same time, it is quite similar to <Strongly reject= that the percentage from <Aware without action= also accounts for a low rate of 14%, probably because students are incurious with toxic content harmful to their society Meanwhile, 91 out of 121 students (75.2%) report their sources of information about their actions <do not care= This is because they choose a way of life that makes them happy and stay out of all troubles They don't care that the toxic contents affect others The one thing that they care about is that these contents are not affecting them so they ignore poisonous contents
2.5 Solutions
Figure 4 - Solutions for prevent toxic content
Trang 1311
This table shows solutions to prevent harmful content on TikTok of Vinh Loc high school students Surprisingly, the majority of students who participated in the survey (37.2%) chose not to pay attention to these contents This partly reflects the tendency
of young people to be indifferent towards issues that do not directly affect them, or have influence but are not clearly seen in a short-term The next most popular options are to report to the TikTok app (23.1%) and compare with the policies for content producers that this app offers (14%) This is followed by a relatively large number
of students choosing individual solutions; which means depending on the personality, each person will have their own way of dealing with harmful content on TikTok In the end, a small number of students chose a radical but slightly extreme option: deleting their personal accounts at this social networking platform (9.9%)

PART 3: DISCUSSION
There have been abundant papers researching in the field of Tik Tok’s impact, up to now, we have detected several papers related to the topic
Nur Syamsu Ismail offered a theoretical understanding on the relationship between the intensity of using Tik Tok social media and stress level among teenagers The results of data analysis conducted in this study indicate that the intensity of using Tik Tok social media access and stress levels have a significant relationship (Nur Syamsu Ismail, 2021) This is in line with the stages of adolescent developmental tasks, namely adolescent socioemotional, biological, and cognitive development, where adolescents experience many significant changes in their lives to build relationships and socialize with their peers Our study also showed a similar relationship, when the majority of teenagers answered that they were affected by tik tok at level 3 (relatively affected) and felt annoyed by malicious content
According to the findings of HMWM Herath’s study, there is a positive correlation between TikTok usage and academic achievements It was found that most university students are involved in TikTok during leisure time, and main reasons for this are the self-satisfaction of sharing one's own skills, knowledge, ideas and feelings with others, etc (Herath, 2020) This is indeed a positive impact on student's mental health and creativity Nevertheless, most of the students spend more than two hours a day on TikTok as a habit, and it is a significant amount of time in their daily life When the students engage in TikTok video creating, they spend a lot of time dressing up, doing make-up and hairstyles, selecting locations, arranging the background settings, practicing the performance, rehearsing, recording and editing, etc In other words, posting and updating on TikTok is a time-consuming affair The findings of the present study clearly indicate that as spending time on TikTok increases, the academic achievements decrease
Compared to our research, as we had mentioned before, although there is a large number of disproportionate topics on TikTok, it still attracts a lot of users, especially adolescents between the ages of 15-18 And clearly, the research concludes that the app does have a certain influence on its young users, whether it is huge or slight, positive or negative Indeed, HMWM Herath’s study also proved that there is a strong relationship between TikTok usage and academic achievements On the
Trang 1513
bright side, TikTok does cast a positive impact on students' mental health and creativity, as users can watch a lot of short clips sharing skills, knowledge, and ideas However, posting and updating on TikTok is time-consuming, and harmful content appeared frequently on the app, as spending time on TikTok increases, academic achievements decrease Therefore, our research comes up with a suggestion, although TikTok provides certain benefits, users, especially teenagers, should be careful when using it
One study about the impact of TikTok about student’s behavior in general from G
K Swathi accepted the hypothesis that the more students updated on TikTok, the higher reduction appeared in their class attendance (G K Swathi, 2020) However, the study also shows the negative correlation between the amount of time students spent on TikTok and the decrease in the class attendance; which means that the higher time spent on TikTok does not lead to the higher the chance of missing class among students Another result we could learn from Swathi’s study is that the more friends that students have on TikTok, the more time they spend on this app
Besides, the study belongs to Cell Dilon showing that the video TikTok provides to its target users seem harmless and creative, make users feel happier using the app compare to other social media such as Facebook or Instagram (Dilon, 2020) However, their parents seem to find that there are gaps in the usage of the app's security, like every social network, have had user difficulties and that parents throughout generations It must be stated that for now the TikTok users do not take the app as a problem, but their parents do
Our numbers indicate that most of the people using TikTok were affected by this social network, whether good or bad However, over time, this social network appears to have more and more harmful and inappropriate content Only about 25,6%
of survey respondents who are using this social network have not encountered inappropriate content during use, even though they have heard/knew of their existence According to our data, out of the total survey participants, up to 33.1% feel bothered by toxic contents and 52,9% feel uninterested at all This is quite a contrast to the results of a previous study, a study belonging to Cell Dilon, which showed that content on TikTok appears to be harmless and interesting to young users (Dilon, 2020) Our research suggests that for young users, specifically students, inappropriate content on TikTok seems to be under-regulated and thus could adversely affect this age, which does not have full and steady awareness
