With the emergence of new economies, governments, and social challenges,
a new century is upon us In the past, there were many different ways forindividuals to stay informed about news from many different sources, includinglistening to the radio, watching television, reading a print newspaper In contrast, young people today prefer to stay current on news through new media platformssuch as Internet newspapers or magazines, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, andTiktok As a result, the media was exerting considerable influence It might containurgent and nearly immediate fresh information This century saw widespread use ofthe tools for updating news on social media platforms But many individuals arestill misled by the media, which can be harmful to society in general

CHAPTER II LITERATURE REVIEW
1 Traditional media as a main role of updated the news in the past
Print media, which predates the internet and includes publications as books, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, academic journals, pamphlets, leaflets, broadsides, and billboards, is regarded as traditional or old media According to Thetalmil project (n.d) “Chapter 5: From traditional media to new media” Basicially, old media do not requies the Internet to access, and traditional media played a mainpart in the past A newspaper is a periodical that is released on a regular basis thatincludes news, information, and advertisements Over 1,400 daily newspapers arepublished in the United States, out of an estimated 6,600 worldwide They sell 395million copies day worldwide, 55 million of which are sold in the United States(WordPress, n.d) The Queen of the UK defended traditional media, saying that itwas important to have "Reliable sources of information at a time when there aremany sources vying for the attention of citizens." 2020 (Waterson)
But in the modern era, as technology has improved, people now want to staycurrent with news via alternative platforms because of a number of shortcomingswith traditional media Between 2006 and 2011, the number of paid subscribers todaily print newspapers in the United States fell by 20%, in part as a result of theemergence of substitute news sources, such as the free information provided onnewspaper websites and by news aggregators like Yahoo (Adithya et al 2017).According to Haque (2017), the study looked at news media avoidances such
"inconvenience" and "lack of time" in order to identify hidden meanings
Trang 5Tran Phuong Linh, 10210022, 18S1
Many individuals today access the Internet for the most recent news at anytime and anywhere since digital media has now permeated modern culture and isposing a threat to print media (Pradeep Tewari, 2016) Through a variety of means, internet technology is altering how news is published and disseminated globally(Syeda et al., 2015) Online newspapers are very different from print publications:Online readers navigate by clicking links and menu buttons while they read fromdigital content on a computer or smartphone screen (Pradeep Tewari, 2016) Olderpeople are impacted because young people are more sensitive to the informationshared on social media Therefore, it is anticipated that in the future, customers willplace a greater emphasis on the information shared on social media (Lavanya et al.,2014)
Within a few minutes, those systems can update news and data regardingglobal events The digital platforms with the most users are social networks, where43% of American readers spent more time in the mid of April The use of socialmedia, on the other hand, has dramatically expanded across the country and shows
no signs of slowing down Social media is used by 95% of people in Brunei, 83% ofpeople in Singapore, and 75% of people in Malaysia, according to an ISEAS-YusofIshak Institute survey from 2018 (Nortajuddin,2020) Modern media is one of themost effective tools for people worldwide because of its incredible advantages
3 Misinformation
Unfortunately, a lot of false information has spread to exploit the situation, mostly on social networking sites like Facebook, Tik Tok, and Twitter People'smethods for gathering news and information are quickly changing Social media iscurrently the best resource for staying up to date with the news According to PewResearch Center's report from 2021, "a third of US adults continue to regularly gettheir news from Facebook." "It is problematic because major social activities would
be at risk if systematic measures were not taken to decrease the amount of falsematerial on media platforms." (Perry, 2020)
While conventional one was more probable to surface in traditional medialike newspapers, television, or radio, false information is frequently uploaded onsocial media like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram According to Bridgman (2020),news broadcasts tend to support public health recommendations like social

estrangement, however there is substantially more misinformation spread onTwitter Traditional media is therefore seen as a reliable source of information
