Make sure to release the vacuum from the brake booster before removing the brake master cylinder

sub-assembly from the brake booster sub-assembly

PROCEDURE

NOTICE:

Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface

Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles

The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles

·

1.DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

Loosen the push rod clevis lock nut

a.

Remove the brake master cylinder push rod clevis

b.

5.DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE

except 1TR-FE, 2TR-FE:

Slide the clip and disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake vacuum check valve assembly

a.

for 1TR-FE, 2TR-FE:

Slide the clip and disconnect the 2 vacuum hoses from each brake vacuum check valve assembly

Using a union nut wrench, install the front No 1 wheel cylinder tube LH to the disc brake cylinder assemblyLH

*a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench

·When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.8661 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrumlength of 162 mm (6.3779 in.)): 13.4 N*m (137 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf)

·

Do not bend or damage the front No 1 wheel cylinder tube LH

·

Do not allow any foreign matter such as dirt and dust to enter the front No 1 wheel cylinder tube

LH from the connecting points

·

Attach 2 new clips to the front flexible hose

Using a union nut wrench, connect the flexible hose to the brake line and front No 1 wheel cylinder tube LHwhile holding the front flexible hose with a wrench

Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench

1.REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

2.DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

Disconnect the brake line from the front flexible hose with a union nut wrench while holding the front

flexible hose with a wrench

Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 set rings and 4 cylinder boots from the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

Prepare a wooden plate to hold the front disc brake pistons

Place the wooden plate between the front disc brake pistons and insert a front disc brake pad on one side

3.REMOVE PISTON SEAL

Using a screwdriver, remove the 4 piston seals from the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

Remove the front disc brake bleeder plug from the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

PROCEDURE

1.CHECK BRAKE CYLINDER AND PISTON

Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring

If necessary, replace the disc brake cylinder assembly and front disc brake piston

a.

2.CHECK PAD LINING THICKNESS

Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness

Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness

If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc

4.CHECK DISC RUNOUT

Check the front axle hub bearing looseness (Click here Drivetrain>AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL>FRONT AXLEHUB(for 4WD and Pre-Runner)>ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION) and front axle hub runout (Click here

Drivetrain>AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL>FRONT AXLE HUB(for 4WD and Pre-Runner)>ON-VEHICLE

Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10.0 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the disc

Maximum disc runout:

0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

NOTICE:

Do not place the magnetic portion of the dial indicator near the axle hub or speed sensor

If the runout is more than the maximum, change the installation position of the disc so that runout is the

smallest possible If the runout is more than the maximum even when the installation position is changed,grind the disc If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc

Remove the 6 hub nuts and front disc

Apply disc brake grease to both sides of each No 1 anti-squeal shim

Install the 2 front disc brake pads to the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

NOTICE:

Make sure there is no oil or grease on the friction surface of the front disc brake pads and front disc

Temporarily install the front disc brake bleeder plug to the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

HINT:

The front disc brake bleeder plug will be tightened to a torque specification in the "Bleed Brake Line"

procedures

3.INSTALL PISTON SEAL

Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to 4 new piston seals

a.

Lithium soap base glycol grease

Install the 4 piston seals to the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

Securely install the piston seal into the groove of the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire inner circumference of 4 new cylinder

boots, and the entire circumference of the top and bottom of the outer edge as shown in the illustration

*1 Cylinder Boot

*2 Front Disc Brake PistonLithium soap base glycol grease

Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire outer circumference of the 4 front disc

brake pistons where they contact the cylinder boots and disc brake cylinder assembly LH

for 15 inch Front Disc Brake (Type A):

Remove the pin hold clip and 2 disc brake pad guide pins

*2 Pin Hold Clip

*3 Front Disc Brake Anti-rattle Spring

Remove the 2 pin hold clips

i.

*1 Disc Brake Pad Guide Pin

*2 Pin Hold Clip

*3 Front Disc Brake Anti-rattle Spring

Hold down the anti-rattle spring and remove the 2 disc brake pad guide pins

Remove the 2 front disc brake pads from the disc brake cylinder assembly LH

a.

Remove the 2 No 1 anti-squeal shims and 2 No 2 anti-squeal shims from each pad

a.

6.DISCONNECT FRONT NO 1 WHEEL CYLINDER TUBE LH 47343A

Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the front No 1 wheel cylinder tube LH from the disc brake cylinder

assembly LH

BRAKE (FRONT) FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) REPLACEMENT

After replacing the disc brake pads, the clearance between the disc brake pads and front discs becomes larger

and the brake pedal feel becomes softer Therefore, after replacing the disc brake pads, depress the brake pedalseveral times and check the clearance and brake pedal feel

*1 Front Disc Brake Pad

*2 No 1 Anti-squeal Shim

*3 No 2 Anti-squeal ShimDisc Brake Grease

Apply disc brake grease to both sides of each No 1 anti-squeal shim

Using SST, push back the front disc brake piston

BRAKE (REAR) REAR BRAKE FLEXIBLE HOSE(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

Connect the No 5 flexible hose bracket with the 2 bolts

Torque:

12.5 N*m (127 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) a.

Install the No 5 flexible hose bracket with the 3 bolts

Torque:

29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) b.

Attach the brake tube clamp to the No 5 flexible hose bracket

c.

Install the No 6 flexible hose bracket with the bolt

Torque:

29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) a.

Connect the flexible hose to the connecting point with each brake tube, and then install 2 new clips

a.

Using a union nut wrench, connect the rear brake tube flexible hose to the brake tube while holding the

rear brake tube flexible hose with a wrench

Torque:

Specified tightening torque : 15.2 N*m (155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf) HINT:

*a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench
