PREFACE

This book is designed to help non-English majors in ESL/EFL countries who aim to achieve a B 1 CE.FR level to take one step further in improving their ability to use English in a variety of work contexts and academic settings Vocabulary, sentence structures, common expressions, and learning strategies at a higher level in comparison with those in our first book are presented in each of the four units to ensure students' step-by-step improvement in their language learning process It is

expected that the students will be equipped with necessary knowledge and skills to become more fluent and effective communicators in a variety of future work contexts We also hope that this book can build the self-confidence in learning

English of non-English majors in ESL/EFL countries and is a steppingstone to their lucrative career

The contest evaluation criteria included creativity, technical content and feasibility, work completeness, and business model The Accreditation Committee included domestic and international university professors, scholars, and professionals The contest themes covered different topics of green and sustainable energy technologies such as high-efficiency motors and electric vehicles A presentation on an intelligent

energy-savnig vacuum pump power system by a team from National I-Lan University, Taiwan, and the lndustria] University of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, won the best technological award by Creative Sensor lnc

B The 2018 TECO Green Tech Contest

The TECO Green Tech International Contest was organized by the TECO Technology Foundation yearly to promote the use of green energy in Taiwan and worldwide In 2018, it was held in Taipei, Taiwan on August 22nd The contest attracted many teams from different areas of the world, including those from the United States, China, Singapore, Japan, India, and Russia Judges, who were domestic specialists, evaluated the team's study according to three criteria: creativity, technical content and feasibility, and work completeness The team that won the championship of the 2018 TECO contest came from the Institute of Environmental Engineering, National Sun Yat-sen University with a study on soil and ground-water pollution abatement

TECO Green Tech International Contest

1 Eligibility:

- lnternat_ional college students can register for the contest

- One team consists of three or more members Each team should have advisers or

instructors

- Teams can have members from different schools or faculties; however, each member

cannot belong to more than one team

2 Information Submission: Each team needs to submit the following

documents online

(l) Team Profile: (submitted by June 3rd, 20 I 9)

The team profile should provide brief information on: Name of the project, team members

and advisers/instructors, team members' photocopies of student IDs

(2) Work Description: (submitted by June 30th, 2019)

The description of each team's work consists 'of 6 sections presented in the following

order: Creation Motive, Research Process, Brief of Work, Energy Efficiency, Project

Proposal and Relevant Documents, Proposal of Business Model

3 Other Requirements:

- English is the language in all submitted documents

- The contest will not accept works submitted or commercialized elsewhere Individual

team will take responsibility for the copyright infringement of their submitted works

- Only clear photos of student IDs are accepted

4 Final Contest:

- The final contest consists of three parts: Oral Presentation (nine minutes), Q&A session

(five minutes), and Work Demonstration

- English is the language in the final contest

- Teams are required to wear school uniforms or T-shirts with team name/logo

PREFACE

The desire for this book has originally come from our long-term appetite for preparing practical knowledge for ESL/EFL non-English majors at National !Lan University, Taiwan, and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam The cultivation of interdisciplinary talents has become the focus of higher education today in the world Industries' demands are changing and present challenges to higher education in producing future workforce To empower the ESL/EFL non-English majors whose English language level is currently at an A2 CEFR level for the world beyond the classroom, four units in the book with vocabulary, sentence structures, expressions, and learning strategies are presented in such a way that is useful for both the students' academic learning and career development The students will take their first steps in interacting and performing successfully in future job-related situations It is expected that the students will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to become more fluent and effective communicators
