• A type of dispersive solid phase extraction (dSPE) used for sample preparation

• Determine 29n – alkanes (C12 – C40) and two isoprenoid acyclic hydrocarbons (pristane and phytane) in sediments

Extract alkanes from C 22 to C 34

with an odd to even predominance,

highest in C 31 This is consistent

with a vascular land plant input.

These results can be used for

further paleoclimate investigations.

MEANING OF METHOD

Develop a method:

✓ Low cost

✓ Short analytical time

✓ Reduction of solvent consumption and possible associated contamination

✓ Avoid the need for sophisticated devices

✓ Diminish possible auto-oxidation reactions

Alkane extraction by QuEChERS method would be more in line with the principles of Green Analytical Chemistry

Samples were collected from archaeological sites in Austria and Spain

Samples is described as homogeneous beige silt, approximately 1.30 m below surface

Collected by metal tools rinsed with MeOH and DCM
