A young girl was struggling to finish her swim as the ocean became increasingly rough and cold Despite her father's advice from the boat to give up and get out of the water, she confidently responded, "I'll decide when to get out." Ultimately, she persevered and successfully completed her swim.

When old, damaged books become "sick," a skilled bookbinder like Henry Richardson can restore their vitality, often saving rare and unique copies that may be the only ones left Richardson approaches each restoration with gentle care, treating the books as if they were delicate infants His process begins by carefully removing the old covers and washing each page in water to remove dirt and yellowing Using precise techniques, he repairs the pages while they are still wet, placing them on heavy glass to ensure proper drying and flattening This meticulous method results in beautifully restored, white, and perfectly repaired pages, bringing these precious books back to life.

Damaged pages are carefully separated from the glass and placed between sheets of paper to dry safely Once dry, the pages are reassembled and fitted back into their original book cover, preserving the book's integrity In some cases, only the front and back covers can be reused, with new pieces added to reinforce and hold them together When the original cover is too damaged, a completely new cover may need to be created to restore the book's appearance and durability.

The final step in book restoration is returning the strengthened and cleaned 15th- or 16th-century book to the library, ensuring it can be enjoyed once more For conservator Henry Richardson, the most rewarding part of his work is seeing fragile, damaged books become healthy and accessible again He emphasizes that "what is the use of a book if you can't read it?" highlighting the importance of preservation for future enjoyment and scholarly use.

Dog Is Girl's Bridge to the World

Best friends who attend school together daily enjoy weekend outings at the shopping mall Both share honey-colored hair, but they are distinguished by their eye color—one has striking blue eyes, while the other has deep brown eyes.

Jenny Siegle, a 14-year-old quadriplegic, relies on Augie, her trained golden retriever from Freedom Services, who acts as her "arms and legs" to assist with daily tasks Despite being in a wheelchair due to her inability to use her arms or legs, Jenny's mobility and independence are greatly supported by Augie’s dedicated assistance Their bond exemplifies the vital role service dogs play in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with mobility challenges.

Augie learns to assist Jenny by picking up her dropped pencil and notebook at school, demonstrating his helpfulness Additionally, Jenny is actively training Augie to pull off her jackets, empowering him to assist her independently without needing to ask for help.

Augie helps at home by bringing Jenny the TV listings and assisting with cleaning her room When Jenny requests help, he promptly fetches her parents or sister He also takes the initiative to carry his food dish so Jenny can fill it with dog food, then neatly places it back in its spot.
