international students The list of institutions included is not comprehensive; it is meant to represent a diverse list of large, small, private and public institutions that can serve as a starting point for students as they explore scholarship opportunities.

Listed in alphabetical order, each entry includes basic profile information about the

institution, information related to acceptance rates and standardized testing

requirements, and information of available grants and scholarships The scholarship information is subject to change, and students are highly encouraged to review or request additional information from institutions of interest Students are also encouraged to request information on SAT Subject Test requirements for institutions, since these

requirements can vary by major or by school.

This document was inspired by the author’s interviews with high school students who live

in Mandra Attikis, Greece, who expressed their wish to find a way to study abroad in the United States The interviews were conducted as part of the author’s grade 9/10 school project to assess Greek students’ college and career aspirations in the context of their country’s economic recession.

GEORGIA Emory University

home/index.html

Grants/Scholarships Available for International Students  Need-based  Emory University offers need-based financial aid awards to a small, select

group of international students International students who apply for need-based financial aid will be reviewed as a separate cohort In the admission process, the university is “need-aware” for international students. This means that when reviewing international applications, Emory University takes into account whether an applicant has requested financial assistance.

As a result of this need-aware approach, Emory’s admission rate for international applicants requesting need-based financial aid is notably lower

than the rate of acceptance for those not requesting aid.

Merit-based  International applicants are encouraged to apply for merit-based

through the Emory University Scholar Programs As part of these programs,

the university offers partial/full merit-based scholarships

University of Chicago

Undergraduate/Graduate

*Some form of standardized testing is required from students who attend a high school outside the

United States International students may elect to submit one of several other forms of testing in lieu of an SAT or ACT score.

Grants/Scholarships Available for International Students  Need-based  If you apply for financial aid and you are offered admission, you will receive a

grant-based financial award that meets your full demonstrated need In the admissions process, the university is “need-sensitive” for international candidates This means that when reviewing international applications, UChicago takes into account whether an applicant has requested financial assistance.

The vast majority of financial aid is given out in the form of need-based aid.

Merit-based  Merit scholarships are partial-tuition scholarships that may be a single

lump-sum award, or a renewable annual award Merit scholarships are considered independently of an applicant’s financial situation, so if you think you may require financial assistance, you must submit an application for need-based financial aid All first-year applicants are automatically

considered for merit scholarships; no additional application is required.
