For eight weeks from February 2021 till April 2021, The internship

opportunity I had with the Library of An Giang University was a great

opportunity to learn practical skills and improve professional development I

learned many useful and important skills such as translating, designing, and

writing I think that I am a very fortunate individual to meet and work with

many excellent people who guided me during my internship At the very

outset, I want to extend my gratitude and thankfulness to all those who have

supported me for over three and a half years at An Giang University

First of all, I would like to express my special thanks to my instructor Mrs

Duong Thi Diem Phuc She gave me trust and necessary advice that helped me

to finish my internship successfully

Secondly, I would like to extend my deep thanks to the Director Board of An

Giang University Library where I practiced during my internship Especially, I

sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Vice-Director Nguyen Thi Hong Loan, Ms

Nguyen Ngoc Anh Thu, and all staff members at the Library of An Giang

University, from the bottom of my heart for their professional guidance,

insightful comments, enthusiastic support, and tolerance for my mistakes

during my internship

Thirdly, I am grateful to the administrators of An Giang University and the

school’s Foreign Language department for giving me an intensive learning

environment and creating favorable conditions for me to take my internship

Last but not least, I am thankful to my family for all their sacrifice and friends

who gave me timely advice during the internship

I will try to use the acquired skills and knowledge gained in the best possible

way to achieve the desired career subjects

A INTRODUCTION.

As part of the curriculum, the 4th year students of the Faculty of English

Languages at An Giang University were required to participate in internships

lasting eight weeks The contents of the internship program are aimed to train

students to be capable of independence in thought and work The goal of the

internship is to help senior students to gain hands-on experiences in the actual

working environment, sharpen their knowledge and skills

The department has provided us with many intern positions at An Giang

University Library to help us have the opportunity to learn soft skills and have

real experience as translators During the two months there, I have had the

chance to improve my translation skills, collect information and get valuable

experience Moreover, it has helped me to be more conscious in my career

choice after graduation

The purpose of this report is to give some insight into the internship at An

Giang University Library, focusing on some aspects of Translation This

internship report would give my observation and experiences working as an

intern for An Giang University Library The report would also include the

lessons I have learned through my internship and my suggestion for the

Faculty of English Languages as well as An Giang University Library

THE AIM OF THE INTERNSHIP REPORT.

After completing the subjects of the Department, each 4th-year student

will have a graduation practice program The goal of this internship program is

to help us to apply the knowledge learned according to a scientific and creative

way into life The Internship at An Giang University Library has helped me

learn many useful lessons for myself

Every student is required to write an Internship Report upon completion of

their internship In this internship report, I will describe my experience during

my internship period The internship report contains an overview of the An

Giang University Library, the activities, and tasks that I have worked on

during my internship The report also includes the lessons I learned during my

internship and my recommendation to the Faculty of English Languages and

the Library of An Giang University

During my internship, two main competencies are central:

Work as a translator, translating news and reviewing the book And work as an

English mentor, where I had to learn and help students who have difficulty in

learning English These are the two main competencies that I have to work on

and focus on during my internship

1 General information of Library

1.1 Introduction to the Library.

The predecessor of An Giang University Library is An Giang Teacher

Training College Library which was established in 1976 An Giang University

Library was officially opened on September 16, 2002 From 1976 to 2002, the

Library had been a division of the Academic Affairs Office; and the Library

mainly provided printed materials for the students and teaching staff of An

Giang Teacher Training College

In January 2002, the Library was split into An Giang University Library under

the direct management of the An Giang Board Director The Central Library

was a large spacious building with many modern facilities and officially

opened at A areas of An Giang University on September 16, 2002

In September 2011, the Library relocated to a new facility on the 3rd, 4th, and

5th floors of the Central Library of An Giang University

In 2015, AGU Library is constantly developing its human resources and

facilities in order to improve the training quality of AGU The operation of the

Library is always attached to the mission and goals of “An Giang University

will be a reliable place in human resources education and training to catch up

with the socio-economic development needs of the province and the region''

1.3 Equipment

The Library has a total of 376 computers (319 computers are networked,

57 computers are not), and 300 computers for readers

 3 Student computer rooms with approximately 260 Internet

accessed computers for students to use free of charge

 The teacher computer room is equipped with 13 computers, 01

printer, 01 scanner to serve the teachers and staff of the school

 Study area: 03 study rooms with a total of 3,585 m2 wide and about

1000 seats for individual study (3rd floor: 230 seats, 4th floor: 330

seats, 5th floor: 440 seats)

 6 computers with My Opact search engine for students to look up

documents in the library

 33 computers for professional service at the Library

 The seminar room has been installed with 37 computers, 01

projector and a stereo system that serves the reporting of thematic

teaching plans with a capacity of 50 seats

 The discussion room holds conferences and seminars with a

 Internal resources: 9.885 titles

 Visual materials: 1.937 volumes

Resources in the Library are cataloged by the International Standard

AACR2, MARC 21 Format and classified to the Dewey decimal classification

system (DDC)

(Statistics date 12/2020)

Electronic collections:

DSpace: Includes internal resources such as student curriculum, course

textbooks, course arguments, theses, dissertations, scientific research subjects

by teachers and students of An Giang University, other items of scientific

information; documents of seminars and training workshops at the school

 3,512 internal resources records (Ph.D thesis, Master thesis, Graduate

thesis, Topics of scientific research, )

 1.110 records include 03 collections of Greenstone (collection of poems

written by Ly Tran, An Giang historical remains, Personal collection

Mekong Delta fish)

 4.347 ebook documents records

 3.052 research articles about VietNam records

 3.038 International Journal (Elsevier)

2 Structure and organization of the Library.

The number of staff in the Library is 24 They are qualified and

professionally inexperienced and are available to assist readers and users to

find the information they require

II E-News introduction.

1 Overview of e-News.

E-News as “Electronic news” is a part of An Giang University

Library system E-News debuted in October 2004, named “Electronic News

for Students” Now, it’s called e-News, and the website address:

http://enews.agu.edu.vn

E-News provides information about learning activities, An Giang

University faculty members’ student movement, and research activities

This is a useful platform for AGU students who can share their various

academic and extracurricular activities Furthermore, they gain great

experience in communication, time management, and especially improving

their writing skills

 Sharing feelings club (The sentiments young people feel)

III The process of my internship

My internship course began from February to April 2021; it was the

most wonderful experience for me, as I had a chance to reinforce the

knowledge which I gained from the university and work in a professional

working environment In this part, I would describe what I have done and

reached through the training course at AGU Library

During my internship course in An Giang University Library, my main task

was an English mentor and translator

1 Job description.

I participated in the internship for two months, and I worked up to 5 days

per week Our working hours were from 7 a.m to 5 p.m Monday through

Friday On the first day of my internship, Ms Nguyen Ngoc Anh Thu

introduced us to staff, and what work has been done in the next eight weeks I

had an opportunity to meet with my direct supervisor during the internship

Mrs Nguyen Thi Hong Loan – Vice Director of An Giang University Library

My supervisor allowed us to dress as we were at school, but it needed to look

neat and put-together

1.1 News translation.

The first task assigned to me was to translate news articles, Mrs Nguyen

Ngoc Anh Thu gave us the basic tutorial of news translation, including a

5W1H formula, which means:

What? – what happened?

When? – when did the event occur?

Where? – Where was the event occured?

Who? – who is involved?

Why? – Why was the aim of the event?

How? – The process of the event?

We were to translate news from An Giang University The news

content was activities, events, and science reports Mrs Anh Thu posted the

news file in a group on Zalo, the longest news was over 450 words, and the

shortest was about 300 words

After receiving the news, I needed to read and refine the main ideas for

translation We would send news translated to the supervisor, who helped me

check our translation, identify my mistakes, and correct my translation work

Mrs Loan did not force us to translate all the words in the news; we mainly

translated the main idea according to the formula 5W1H I gathered some

translation tips from my instructor’s response when she edited my translation

news The first tip, we should use simple words in translation and summarize

the speaker’s ideas if there are overlaps in those ideas We could also break

out the sentences into smaller sections for easier translation

To help us complete the internship successfully, our supervisor encouraged us

to read news through the Internet (www.vietnamnews.vn, www.vnexpress.net,

etc ) and other university news In these ways, we can learn new words and

broaden my knowledge in the fields

To help you have a closer look at our work, I give you an example of

international news that we have done during the internship

Nhằm nâng cao chất lượng hoạt động quảng bá tuyển sinh và thắt chặt mối

quan hệ với các đối tác địa phương, vừa qua, Trường Đại học An Giang đã

triển khai các đoàn công tác đến trao đổi cùng lãnh đạo các trường trung học

phổ thông tại huyện Chợ Mới và Thoại Sơn

Tham gia đoàn công tác có quý thầy cô là Trưởng - Phó các phòng chức năng

và chuyên viên của Trường Tại các trường, đoàn công tác đã thông tin cùng

Ban Giám hiệu các trường THPT về hoạt động tuyển sinh Đại học và Sau Đại

học năm 2021 của Trường ĐHAG

Bên cạnh đó, đôi bên đã cùng thảo luận về một số hoạt động có thể hợp tác

trong tương lai, như: Tổ chức các lớp bồi dưỡng chức danh nghề nghiệp dành

cho giáo viên; giới thiệu các chương trình học bổng dành cho học sinh; triển

khai hoạt động “Trải nghiệm 1 ngày làm sinh viên” cho các em; chương trình

“Đại sứ Tư vấn hướng nghiệp;
