Trang 11PART B: THE INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES
I Activities
During the internship, I did not need to be in the office every day, only 1 or 2sessions per week The internship plan is also simple: Mr Phuc introduced thefunctions, tasks, main activities of DER, career orientations, and assigned somepractical jobs to beat
1 Theoretical learning
Because the epidemic of COVID-19 happened complicatedly, I did not need to
go to the Department in the first 2 weeks of my internship Instead, Mr Phucshared all the documents related to foreign affairs (not only English but also manyother languages), other jobs, and other classic books that foreign affairs workersmust memorize so that I can read at home For example Diplomatic Protocol,General information about An Giang Province, An Giang - Japan cooperation, and
so on In addition, I also had another task of writing a CV and prepared for aninterview while gathering at the Department after 2 weeks
2 Job interview
This activity took place in the third week of the internship and it partially madethe instructor understand more about each intern and what is the expectation of theinternship at DER This was the first assignment of the internship, I had to write a
CV submitted earlier On the day of the meeting at the Department would brieflydescribe myself, and explained why I want to do an internship at DER Thisexercise was done as a real interview when going to a job interview, Mr Phuc was
an employer and I am a job seeker Through this exercise, I can learn more abouthow to make a good first impression on others with proper, polite gestures andremember making eye contact during the interview And one more thing veryuseful for job applications in the future is when recruiting, employers are always
Trang 12attracted by the way of presenting an impressive CV or resume The importantthing is to say enough (not redundant - overstate, lack information not enoughinformation to convince the employer to hire).
Picture 3 CV in the first task
Trang 133 Translation
As expected, translation is already on every student's to-do list during their internship at the DER
3.1 Translating from English to Vietnamese
On the fourth week, the first translation exercise was a pretty easy personalizedexercise, translating the diplomatic note No.NV/112/NVCC/2021 with the subject:
"Making/collecting photos and videos showing Buddhist linkages between Indiaand Vietnam in Oc Eo Cultural Relie area in March 2021" That week, I also hadthe task of group translation for a 20-page document - " Strategic Management ofStakeholders: Theory and Practice", with 11 students participating in theinternship, so it was divided into three groups (two groups of 4 members and agroup of 3 members) The team leader divided the documents equally and themembers took over each part and completed it in the best way After that, thegroup had a group meeting to correct mistakes or contribute ideas for bettertranslation This task not only evaluates the translation but also serves to shareexperiences in negotiation and teamwork
On the fifth week, the task need to be completed are quite numerous anddifficult So, 11 students were divided into 2 groups to be able to complete theassignment better And the document to be translated this week is "Jobattraction and career choice motivation in a socialist-market economy: the case
of the young Vietnamese workforce" This document aims to explain the careerchoice motivation of young workers in a non-Western setting, Vietnam. Moreover, on the same deadline, there was a document "Reverse Bloom: Anew hybrid approach to experiential learning for a new world" and 18 slides ofPowerPoint about "Behavioral Adaptability in VUCA"
Trang 143.2 Translating from Vietnamese to English
On the sixth week, continued with 2 translation tasks for the group The firstassignment was a Circular about Guiding the execution of tax liabilityapplicable to foreign organizations, individuals do business, or earning incomes
People's Committee of Ha Tinh Province, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam andMinistry of Economics, Labor and Public Health of Mecklenburg VorpommernState, the Federal Republic of Germany refers to the implementation of someprojects to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, exploit the strengths of eachside to complement, support each other in socio-economic development, andimprove the quality of life of the people The above 2 assignments gave me a lot ofdifficulties and took me a lot of time to learn economic terminology and haddifficulty with sentence structure problems when translating into English
4 Simulation of welcoming Indian delegation
On the seventh week, Mr Phuc assigned me and my friends a special taskwhich is to simulate the role of An Giang meeting to welcome the delegation andwork with the Indian consulate This is an activity to help me and my friendsbetter visualize a reception of consulates from different countries to An Giangprovince instead of just watching a video or just through stories This was a newand exciting experience that has helped expand my knowledge During thestimulation, there would be several situations that were arisen out of the scenario Ialso learned how to respond and quickly think about solving a problem other thanthe scenario that happens suddenly
This was a simulation for a courtesy between the leaders of An Giang provinceand the Consul General and the delegation of the Indian Consulate in Ho Chi MinhCity Before the simulation, we had 2 weeks to prepare before the seventh week ofthe internship This activity was fairly new, my friends and I had never learned or
Trang 15interacted so I did not know how to write the script and organize the program Butwith the help of Ms Ngan, we already knew how to do this activity After learninghow to do it, about 5 friends participated in writing detailed scripts for a socialgreeting The rest of my friends, including me, would find information on the internetabout cooperation between An Giang and India in education, health, agriculture, andcommerce, or achievement over the past years has been achieved through the AnGiang-India cooperation During the courtesies, there would be representatives of AnGiang province as the president of An Giang province, leaders of relevantdepartments such as Director of the Department of An Giang External Relations,Director of the Department of An Giang Agriculture, Director of the Department of
An Giang Industry And Trade and Chief of Office of An Giang and the representative
of the Indian consulate delegation was Consul General of India in HCM city,Agricultural Counselor, Industry and Trade Counselor and Secretary, In addition, there should be two more interpreters to help the two sides exchange easily (becauselack of the people, the secretary of the Indian delegation would in charge of thetranslation) and a receptionist from the Department in charge of post-productionstandards Before the courtesy began, the provincial leaders welcomed the delegation
in the lobby and then invite them into the meeting room when the India Consulate'sdelegation arrives Opening the meeting with the two sides greeted each other andintroduced leaders of the departments, then the provincial president and ConsulGeneral spoke on the achievements in the cooperation between the two sides Usually, only the leaders of the two sides talked to each other during the meeting But this wasjust a simulation and Mr Phuc wished everyone would have a dialogue, so theconversation between the leaders changed, each person was responsible for giving abrief statement about their field Therefore, the script in the script would be spoken bythe characters responsible for
Trang 16their field At the end of the courtesy, the two sides gave thanks, promises, gifts and take a souvenir photo together.
5 Presentation
