Trang 11PART B INTERSHIP ACTIVITIES
In this part, I will describe the activities I did during the internship, including the tasks that I was assigned, advantage, disadvantages, the benefitsand my experience at the end of the period
I ASSIGNMENTS
My internship duration is eight weeks, from February 20th, 2021 to April
18th, 2021 Within this period, other interns and I were under the supervision of
Ms Nguyen Minh Trang She gave me direct tasks that I must complete
1 Translating
Translating has always been the most-related tasks for students studying inEnglish Language major My tasks were to translate given documents, articlesand magazines from English to Vietnamese and vice versa This assignment iscarried out throughout the entire internship
These are the documents for translating:
From English to Vietnamese
Memorandum of Understanding for Water Supply Project (date: Feb 24th)
Article ‘That Capture Tourist Heart’ (date: Mar 16th)
PowerPoint regarding Food Security in Singapore (date: Mar 17th)
From Vietnamese to English
Letter of Intent (Water Supply Project) (date: Feb 24th)
Article ‘Những kỷ lục của vùng đất An Giang’ (date: Mar 16th)
The given documents for translation were not too difficult to accomplish. After translating those documents, I found that I lacked the lexical resources fortranslating naturally Moreover, since I was inexperienced in translating, most ofthe collocations were misused, causing the whole text rather incomprehensible
Trang 122 Creating a short video clip introducing An Giang Province
It is recommended by our supervisor that we should put up the videoregarding these topics: agriculture, tourism, An Giang University and its Faculty
of Foreign Languages The building of ideas for making the video is the mostdifficult It took the whole team for approximately a week to think of suitablecontent and structure, since we wanted to make a video in which topics must berelatable and connectable After submitting the video clip to the supervisor, shecomplimented us on the building of the idea for making the video; however, weseemed to forget making a proper end for the video It is our mistakes of notgetting the information on official government website As a result, we ended upgiving the outdated data
3 Composing documents
Seeing that mere translating is not enough for working in the future, the
supervisor gave us many assignments on making various types of papers, some ofwhich are included as bellow:
- Letter of Intent to attract investment for projects (March 3rd) In this task, Iwas assigned to write a letter to express the interest in using the fund of anorganization or an investor The objective of the task was to make a brief letter ofintent; however, I must be able to express fully the content of a letter of that kind, which includes the aims or objectives of the letter, the necessity or the reasonwhy my project needs the support and the fund of the investors, how much theproject needs to be funded and how project owners conduct the project
- Official letter replying to a group of officials coming to local area (March
3rd) Ms Trang required me to write a reply letter responding to official letters onthe fact that a group of civil servants from another department were coming towork with Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang to seeand evaluate the potential to implement water supply project in the area of ChauPhu commune My reply letter was fine at the content but it was
Trang 13rather lengthy Therefore, the supervisor gave comments on my work and pointedout what should be omitted to make the letter much more concise.
(Please refer to Appendix A for details)
- A plan for a workshop (March 4th) It is my assignment that I need tomake a plan for a workshop on the sharing of experience of rural developmentand international integration It is required that I must make a plan in details, which included the objective, estimated contents, time, duration and location ofthe workshop, attendants, how the workshop would be conducted, estimated
cost,… Since this is the first time I had to make a workshop plan, I had a hardtime thinking of what to write After that, I searched for references andcompleted the tasks successfully
(Please refer to Appendix B for details)
- A project proposal on applying successful model of raising catfish in acommune located in An Giang Province (March 9th) I was told to make a mockproject proposals based on any ideas I could come up with, provided that theymust be practical and enforceable My first idea was to make a proposal topromote installing trash bins in public areas of a commune We are given 200million VND as mock fund However, the proposal was rejected due to the lowpossibility of carrying out The estimated cost and the given fund seemed to beunreasonable Upon presenting the second proposal, the same result and problemoccurred I found a successful project implementing new model for raisingPangasius fish and I planned to reapply it in other commune in An Giang. However, considering the cost of previous project (400 billion VND) and thefund of my project (200 million VND), I failed to make the project enforceable
After that, I made another project proposal on building two technical roomssupporting the studying of students in Vong The School, An Giang Province. This time, I succeeded in making a more enforceable and simpler project It wasapproved by Ms Trang later on that day
Trang 14On March 4th, my assignment was to create and design a CV This task wasrelatively easy to complete With the help of online website for creating CV,Joboko, it did not take much time to accomplish the given task During this task, Ihave learned that a CV must be brief and the profile picture must be clear andprofessional Otherwise, it is unlikely that the CV would be selected byinterviewers.
5 Doing research on various things:
My supervisor encouraged me and other interns to get to know about someorganizations, many kinds of applications, how to operate certain machine anddevices, which could be advantageous when it comes to the work we might do inthe future Here are some of the activities:
- Learning how to use Trello (working reminder application)
- Learning about VUFO – NGO Resource Centre The VUFO-NGOResource Centre serves the community of international non-governmentalorganisations (INGOs) working in Vietnam It aims to improve their work byfacilitating and contributing to the sharing of information, resources andexperiences among the INGOs, their partners and local organisations It also aims
to strengthen relationships and enhance dialogue between INGOs and otherdevelopment factors in Vietnam including government agencies and donororganisations It was established in 1993 through a partnership between INGOsand the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) More importantly, this organization offers a wide range of job opportunities The company will hirepeople to work for many projects, and the demand of jobs related to Englishmajor students is also very high
- Learning how to operate photocopy devices and printing devices Duringthe internship, Mr Ly Hoai Anh had showed me and other interns basic steps tooperate these devices as well as how to clear virus and other malware off thecomputers and how to install Windows on a new computer
- Learning about Official website of many department of the government
