Trang 2The process of human labor with the main purpose of creating wealth, food for daily life, is the most important factor to ensure our existence In particular, eating always plays the most important role, eating gives people energy to study, work and entertain People's attitudes toward food and their behaviors have changed throughout that culture's history As Western nations entered their period of
industrial development, their eating habits also gradually changed in line with the industrial trend, which is the development of dishes made using industrial
production Due to heavy workloads and other obligations, people do not pay as much attention to their diets as they once did They also have less time for eating during this busy industrial period, which gives them more time to work As a
result, they gradually turn to foods that can be consumed quickly while still
providing the needed energy This is the condition for the advent of fast-food.
In this era of global technological advancement, fast-food is spreading quickly to many nations With the growth of not only foreign fast-food brands but also the availability of traditional Vietnamese fast-foods, fast-food is taking up a sizable portion of the market in Vietnam However, despite the convenience of fast-food, it gradually becomes apparent that it has drawbacks for society and family as well as for human health Therefore, our focus is on researching the level of consumption and the impact of fast-food on individuals, particularly UEH’s first-year students.
Trang 3CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION 1.1 RELATED DEFINITION
Definition of “fast-food”:
Fast-food is a recognized two-term concept in the Merriam - Webster English dictionary
It is a type of food that is quickly prepared, served quickly and enjoyed in a short period
of time, even taken with you to eat on the way Fast-food is made from ingredients that ensure the nutrition and energy needed for a working day, any meal with a short time to prepare can also be considered fast-food Usually, the term refers to foods sold at a
restaurant with pre-heated or pre-cooked ingredients and served to customers in a
packaged form, such as hamburgers, french fries, soft drinks, fried chicken, spaghetti, pizza,….are obviously considered as popular kinds of fast-food Fast-food is also
considered a representative of Western lifestyle
1.2 REASON (PROBLEM STATEMENT)
The pace of work is accelerating as society continues to develop, and people are forced to adjust to the "dizzying" changes in their daily lives while they are "busy" with their work The pace of work is accelerating as society continues to develop, and people are forced to adjust to the "dizzying" changes in their daily lives while they are "busy" with their work People typically eat their meals quickly to satisfy their body's energy needs and continue working This led to the development of a new way of eating, which is called fast-food
As demand rises and living standards improve, fast-food restaurants are becoming more and more prevalent in Vietnam These restaurants carry the famous brands: Lotteria, McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, Domino's Pizza, etc Of course, indispensable in this research is the human problem: the sudden change of rural and urban culture, the
pressures of living away from home With the time it takes to integrate into university life, students have gradually made the habit of using fast-food in an unscientific manner Even though there have been numerous studies about the negative effects of fast-food, not everyone can accurately and thoroughly understand its negative effects
Recognizing that while human health is becoming a growing source of concern, but the context of fast-food in Vietnam and the state of research on it are still not clear In order
to help students understand and use fast-food more logically, and give them an overview
of the harmful effects of fast-food, we conducted research on the topic of “Researching the level of consuming fast-food of UEH’s first-year students”.
Trang 41.3 AIM OF RESEARCH
The purpose of the research is to present the consumption level and impact of fast-food
on health among those who frequent and have the opportunity to eat fast-food especially freshmen who’ve just started to live away from home
Proposing solutions and advice for students in general and UEH first-year students in particular to adjust the use of fast-food, change bad eating habits to effectively protect their health
1.4 RESEARCH SAMPLE AND SCOPE
1.4.1 Research sample
UEH first-year students (academic year 2022-2023), who have just entered university Their living circumstances change and most of them have to take care of themselves
1.4.2 Research scope
Scale: Conduct surveys with students studying their first year in UEH by filling out survey forms
Time: from 20/12/2022 to 26/12/2022
1.5 METHODS OF RESEARCHING
Reading references: Reading documents through books, newspapers, magazines, the Internet is the first and very important step for each research topic In addition,
information can be extracted from the above-mentioned sources
Quantitative research: online survey (via Google Form) Data on influential factors was collected through receiving 158 form-filling answers of UEH first-year students
(including 65 male students and 93 female students) by non-probability sampling
The research team also used SPSS 20.0 software to analyze data

1.1 Are you a UEH firts-year student ?
Valid
Table 1: Frequency table shows the number of students participating in the survey
Out of 170 students participating in the survey, 158 students were FS, the remaining 12 students were not research subjects of the survey, so the total number of samples taken for the study was 158 FS
1.2 What is your gender ?
Valid
Table 2: Frequency table showing the number of males and females participating in the survey
Among 158 students who take part in the survey, the number of female students
participating in the survey was 17.8%, which is more than the number of male students participating in the survey The structure of this survey sample is quite similar to the gender structure of UEH students This sample is quite representative of the population
1.3 Where are you from ?
Valid
Table 3: Frequency table showing the number of students from urban or rural areas
There are 120/158 students from urban areas, accounting for 75.9% of the students participating in the survey The remaining 38/158 students came from rural areas, accounting for 24.1% of the students participating in the survey

Table 4-5: Graph showing how students perceive fast-food
With a survey sample of 158 students, each student can choose many answers according
to their understanding of fast-food Definition of food that can be prepared and served quickly, you can eat at restaurants or take away is the most popular with students,
accounting for 79.1% Up to 46.8% of students also know that eating fast-food can easily cause obesity (which directly affects their health).
Additionally, the definitions of provide a lots energy,it brings Western style accounted for
30.4% and 29.7% approximately. The lowest percentage of statements - 17.1% of students identifying fast-food as being very nutritious
Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 11.83% and 23.57% of
students consider fast-food is very nutrious This is a relatively low percentage, indicating
Trang 11that the majority of students who took part in the survey do not believe that fast-food is good for their health

Graph 6-7: The graph shows how how frequently students consume fast-food.
According to study findings, students consume fast-food at the highest rate (57.6%), 5-9 times/month, and at the second-highest rate (36.7%) - more than 10 times/month Only 5.7% of students use fast-food more than 15 times/month and less than
5 times/month
Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 2.08 % and 9.32% of students consume fast-food less than 5 times/month Between 23.79 % and 38.21% of students consume fast-food frequently (10-15 times) The fact that students have
partially switched their family's eating habits to eating out and particularly fast-food, so the level of food consumption is quite high

Graph 8-9: The graph shows when students use fast-food
Students use fast-food quite frequently, and the best times to eat it are when there are good deals on it (the highest rate is 44.3%), followed by when they are invited or
invited by others (43.7%)
The survey results indicate that although the amount of time students spend eating their main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) is not excessive (29.1%), they are nonetheless slowly developing the habit of substituting fast-food for these meals
Trang 13Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 36.55 % and 52.05%
of students consume fast-food when there are good deals of fast-food even though they
do not feel craving for it

sisters, )
Graph 10-11: The graph shows who students use fast-food with
Most of students have the habit of eating fast-food with friends or colleagues, accounting for the highest rate of 70.3% In addition, they also eat with their family (accounting for 46.8%), with their sweetheart (21.5%), and eating alone accounted for only 1.9%
Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 63.18 % and 77.42% of students consume fast-food with their friends/peers and between -0.23% and 4.03% of students consume fast-food alone The fact that students frequently select to eat with
Trang 14friends more because at the age of 18-19, they tend to be closer to their friends, they started their university life, they tend to make new friends That explains why only 1.9%
of students eat alone, which is a very low percentage

Trang 15There are a variety of reasons why people choose to eat fast-food, but the information
gathered reveals that the most prevalent one is “being lazy” (46.8% of the students who
took the survey agreed with this) Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 39.02% and 54.58% of students consume fast-food for this reason It is obvious that the majority of students today suffer from a “disease” called “laziness”, which is a popular reason leading to the consumption of fast-food by young people in general and freshmen in particular
“Being busy” and “be convenient and easy to take away” are two factors that contribute
to a significant portion of takeout orders (43.7% and 38.6%, respectively) This is also understandable given that first-year students often struggle to balance life and work because they are moving away from their families and friends for the first time and living independently in a big city Without a clear strategy for time management during studies, people become overly busy and have little time to prepare meals In contrast, fast-food allows people to eat while conversing, working, studying, or even walking down the street, which is entirely consistent with the hectic lives of students today
The reason "colorful and tasty flavor" accounts for a relatively high proportion (39.2%).
Fast-food has a delicious taste, colorful color, attractive aroma, suitable for the taste of the majority of students today
In another regard, many young people, especially freshmen, choose fast food simply due
to the "Crowd psychology-try to know” (11.4%) Using the confidence interval of 95%, it can be seen that between 6.44% and 16.36% of students consume fast-food for this reason This is a relatively low percentage, but it still reflects that there are still a small part of students consume fast-food due to their curiosity, they come to eat because of the luxury of the store or it is because of the famous brand of the food
