1 Sự khác biệt của tính từ V-ing và V-ed/V3

điểm của người, sự vật, hiện tượng

Vd: The class at TIMMY English is very interesting.Tính từ INTERESTING

diễn tả tính chất của lớp học tại TIMMY English

con người, con vật về một sự vật, hiện tượng, sự việc nào đó

Vd: I’m interested in the class at TIMMY EnglishTính từ INTERESTED

diễn tả cảm nhận của  học viên về lớp học tại TIMMY English

1.1 V-ing:

Tính từ dạng V-ing thường được dùng khi danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa thực hiện hoặc chịu trách nhiệm về hành động Động từ thường là nội động từ (không

có tân ngữ) và thời của động từ là thời tiếp diễn

– Diễn tả bản chất, tính chất của một ai hoặc cái gì đó

Ví dụ:

He is such an interesting guy ==> anh này ảnh gây nên sự thích thú cho ai đó

My job is boring

The film was disappointing I expected it to be better

– Nằm trong cấu trúc:

I find English interesting/ fascinating… (bản chất của English)

Ví dụ:

The crying baby woke Mr.Binion (The baby was crying)

The blooming flowers in the meadow created a rainbow of colors (The

flowers were blooming)

The purring kitten snuggled close to the fireplace (The kitten was purring)

1.2 V-ed

Phân từ 2 (V-ed) được dùng làm tính từ khi danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa là đối

tượng nhận sự tác động của hành động Câu có tính từ ở dạng P2 thường

có nguồn gốc từ những câu bị động

– Tính từ tận cùng bằng đuôi –ed cho bạn biết một người nào đó cảm thấy như thế nào về một cái gì đó

Ví dụ:

Are you interested   in buying a car?

Did you meet anyone interesting   at the party?

Everyone was surprised that he passed the examination.

It was quite surprising that he passed the examination.

Ví dụ:

The sorted mail was delivered to the offices before noon (The mail had been sorted)

Frozen food is often easier to prepare than fresh food (The food had been frozen)

The imprisoned men were unhappy with their living conditions (The

men had been imprisoned)

2 Một số cặp tính từ tận cùng -ing và -ed:

alarming/alarmed: báo động depressing/depressed: suy sụp

aggravating/aggravated: tăng

nặng thêm disappointing/disappointed: thất vọng

discouraging/discouraged: chán nản,

annoying/annoyed: tức giận disgusting/disgusted: bất mãn

astonishing/astonished: kinh

astounding/astounded: kinh

hoàng embarrassing/embarrassed: bối rối, ngượng ngùng

boring/bored: chán entertaining/entertained: tính giải trí

captivating/captivated: thu

challenging/challenged: thử

charming/charmed: duyên

confusing/confused: bối rối frightening/frightened: khiếp đảm, đáng sợ

convincing/convinced: chắc

chắn frustrating/frustrated: bực bội

interesting/interested: thú vị overwhelming/overwhelmed: choángngợp

pleasing/pleased: vui lòng,

vừa lòng satisfying/satisfied: hài lòng

surprising/surprised: ngạc

nhiên terrifying/terrified: sợ hãi, khiếp sợ

thrilling/thrilled: hồi hộp tiring/tired: mệt mỏi

touching/touched: cảm động worried/worrying: đáng lo lắng
