INTRODUCTION

This International Standard is one of a series which deals with flexible insulating sleeving for

electrical purposes

The series consists of three parts:

Part 1: Definitions and general requirements (IEC 60684-1);

Part 2: Methods of test (IEC 60684-2);

Part 3: Specification for individual types of sleeving (IEC 60684-3)

This standard consists of three sheets comprising Part 3, as follows:

Sheet 403: Glass textile sleeving with acrylic based coating: high breakdown voltage

Sheet 404: Glass textile sleeving with acrylic based coating: medium breakdown voltage

Sheet 405: Glass textile sleeving with acrylic based coating: low breakdown voltage

FLEXIBLE INSULATING SLEEVING –

Part 3: Specification for individual types of sleeving – Sheets 403 to 405: Glass textile sleeving with acrylic based coating

1 Scope

This International Standard gives the requirements for three types of E-type glass sleeving using either braided or knitted construction with a continuous acrylic based coating, and differentiated by their breakdown voltage: high breakdown voltage (sheet 403), medium breakdown voltage (sheet 404) and low breakdown voltage (sheet 405) These sleevings have been found suitable for use at temperatures up to 155 °C

The sleeving is normally available with internal diameters between 0,3 mm and 25 mm and

in wall thicknesses between 0,15 mm and 1,20 mm The sleeving is normally supplied in the following colours: black, white, red, yellow, blue, brown, green, green/yellow and natural

Sizes or colours other than those specifically listed in this standard may be available as custom items These items shall be considered to comply with this standard if they comply with the other property requirements listed in tables 2 and 4

Materials which conform to this specification meet established levels of performance However, the selection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on this specification alone

2 Normative references

The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document For dated references, only the edition cited applies For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies

“Knitted” or “braided” designation

* B indicates bilateral tolerance; U indicates unilateral tolerance

In those cases where the designation is required to differentiate between sleeving which is

braided and sleeving which is knitted, the appropriate word shall be added as shown above

Any abbreviation used for colour shall comply with IEC 60757 NC is used for "Natural Colour/

No Colour pigmentation” Where no abbreviation is given, the colour shall be written in full.

4 Requirements

In addition to the general requirements given in IEC 60684-1, the sleeving in the sizes normally

available shall comply with the requirements in tables 1, 2 and 4

5 Sleeving conformance

Conformance shall be normally based on results from 10 mm black sleeving
