National foreword
This British Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee GEL/55 (formerly CIL/55) and is the English language version of EN 60317-7
Specification for particular types of winding wires — Part 7: Polyimide enamelled round copper wire, class 220, including amendments A1:1997 and A2:1998,
published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) It is identical with IEC 60317-7:1990, including amendment 1:1997 and amendment 2:1997, published by the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC)
The introduction to IEC 60317-7 reads as follows
“This International Standard is one of a series which deals with insulated wires used for windings in electrical equipment The series has three groups describing: 1) methods of test (IEC 851);
2) specifications (IEC 317);
3) packaging (IEC 264).”
NOTE 1 Reference should be made to BS 6811-0 General introduction and list of Parts.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.

1 Scope
This International Standard specifies the requirements of enamelled round copper winding wire of class 220 with a sole coating based on polyimide resin
Class 220 is a thermal class that requires a minimum temperature index of 220 and a heat shock temperature of at least 240 °C
The temperature in degrees Celsius corresponding
to the temperature index is not necessarily that at which it is recommended that the wire be operated and this will depend on many factors, including the type of equipment involved
The range of nominal conductor diameters covered
by this standard is:
— Grade 1: 0,020 mm up to and including 2,000 mm;
— Grade 2: 0,020 mm up to and including 5,000 mm
The nominal conductor diameters are specified in
clause 4 of IEC 317-0-1.
2 Normative references
The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions
of this International Standard At the time of publication, the edition indicated was valid All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent edition of the standard indicated below Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid International Standards
