NOTE It is recommended that the petroleum spirit used is of a type consisting of a solvent hexane with
an aromatic content of maximum 0,1 volume percentage, a kauri-buthanol value of 29, an initial boiling point of approximately 65 °C, a dry point of approximately 69 °C and a density of approximately 0,68 g/cm3
Trang 117.6 If, in addition to the marking prescribed, the rated operating voltage is indicated by means of a colour, the colour code shall be blue An indicating colour, if different from that of the enclosure, shall be used only if it can be easily distinguished
8 Dimensions
This clause of EN 60309-1 is applicable except as follows:
8.1 Replacement:
The plug part of adaptors shall comply with standard sheet 2-II of EN 60309-2 insofar
as this applies The socket-outlet part or parts shall comply with the dimensional requirements of the relevant national standards listed in Annex AA
Socket-outlet or plug parts with a variable configuration relating to the coupling (e.g distance between centres or pin diameter) are not permitted
Plug part
Compliance is checked by means of gauges or by measurements for those dimensions not covered by gauges For plug part of adaptors, the gauges are shown in Figure 107 and Figure 108 of EN 60309-2
Gauges shall be moved axially to the centre line of the plug part with the force indicated below applied for one minute:
- force (max.) for the "go" gauge 60 N,
- force for the "not go" gauge 20
The position of the earthing contact shall be 6 h
Compliance is checked by inspection
Trang 12In addition, the design of the plug part shall be such that improper connections shall
not be possible between
- the earth contact and a live socket contact, or a live plug contact and the earth
socket contact,
- the phase plug-contact and the neutral socket contact, if any,
- a neutral plug-contact and phase socket contact
Compliance is checked by inspection and tests using the methods indicated below
These tests are made after storage of test specimens of insulating material at a
temperature of (20 ± 5) °C and with relative humidity between 45 % and 75 % for
4 weeks
In case of plug parts with a housing of thermoplastic material this test is made at a
temperature of (35 ± 2) °C, both the plug parts and the gauges being at this
temperature
FIRST TEST (key)
The socket gauge shown in Figure 109 of EN 60309-2 is placed before the plug in
such a way that during the test the key shall hit the lower part of the shroud of the
gauge approximately in the middle
The force F is slowly increased in such a way that the total force given in the following
Table 101 is exerted after 15 s After that the full force is applied for one minute
Table 101 Rated current
A
Force F
N
16 175
While the force is applied the gauge is not permitted to move more than 4 mm in
relation to the shroud of the plug part
After the test the plug part shall not be damaged in such a way that impairs the further
use of the adaptor
These force is equal to 1,4 times the corresponding withdrawal force
SECOND TEST (earth pin)
The force F shall be applied to the earth pin in the same manner and for the same
duration as in the previous test
After the test, the plug part shall comply with the relevant standard sheet
For the socket-outlet part compliance is checked by the tests specified in relevant
national standard (listed in Annex AA)
Trang 138.3 Addition:
Compliance is checked by manual test and, for adaptors with enclosures of resilient or thermoplastic material, by means of the gauge shown in Figure 114 of EN 60309-2 The gauge is applied with a force of 200 N for 1 min
For adaptors with enclosures of thermoplastic material, the gauge is applied at a temperature of (35 ± 2)°C, both the adaptor and the gauge being at this temperature
NOTE For adaptors of rigid material, such as metal, thermosetting resin, ceramic material and the like, conformity with the relevant standard sheets ensures compliance with this requirement
9 Protection against electric shock
Replacement:
9.1 Adaptors shall be so designed that in normal use, live parts are not accessible, even after removing parts which can be removed without using a tool when adaptors are either in partial or complete engagement with the industrial socket-outlet
Compliance is checked by inspection, and if necessary by means of the following test
The test finger shown in Figure 2 of EN 60309-1 is applied in every possible position when the plug is partly or wholly inserted into the corresponding socket-outlet
In order to check contact with the live parts, an electrical indicator having a voltage of not less than 40 V and not more than 50 V shall be used
The socket-outlet part shall comply with the requirements of the relevant national standard (listed in Annex AA)
For equipment in which the use of elastomeric or thermoplastic material may affect the test, it shall be repeated at an ambient temperature of (35 ± 2)°C with the equipment
at that temperature
During this additional test the adaptor is subjected for 1 min to a force of 75 N, applied through the tip of a straight unjointed test finger of the same dimensions as the standard test finger shown in Figure 2 of EN 60309-1 This finger with an electrical indicator as described above is applied to all places where yielding of insulating material could impair the safety of the adaptor
During the test the adaptor and its associated fittings shall not deform to such extent that those dimensions shown in the relevant standard sheets which ensure the safety are unduly altered and no live parts shall become accessible
Each specimen of adaptor is then pressed between two flat surfaces with a force of
150 N for 5 min as indicated in Figure 101 The specimen is checked 15 min after removal from the test apparatus, and shall not show such deformation as would result
in undue alteration of those dimensions shown in the relevant standard sheets which are intended to ensure safety
Trang 14For the socket-outlet part, compliance with the corresponding national standard sheets ensures that the requirement is fulfilled with regards to the inaccessibility of the contacts while the plug is being inserted into the complimentary device
9.2 It shall not be possible to make contact between a pin of a plug and a live contact of a socket-outlet while any other pin is accessible (single pole insertion)
Compliance is checked by manual test
For adaptors with enclosures of thermoplastic material, the gauge is applied at a temperature of (35 ± 2)°C, both the adaptor and the gauge being at this temperature
NOTE 1 Single pole insertion may be prevented by the use of at least one of the following means:
- a sufficiently large cover or cover-plate;
- other means (e.g shutters)
NOTE 2 In some countries the use of shutters as the only means to prevent single pole insertion is not allowed
For the socket-outlet part compliance with the corresponding standard sheets ensures that the requirement is fulfilled
9.3 The outer parts of adaptors, excluding fixing screws and the like, the live and earth pins, and the earth bars, shall be of insulating material
Compliance is checked by inspection
NOTE Varnishes, enamels or sprayed insulating coatings are not regarded as insulating materials for the purposes of the specifications mentioned in 9.1 to 9.3 inclusive
For the socket-outlet part compliance is checked by the tests specified in the relevant national standard (listed in Annex AA)
10 Provision for earthing
NOTE Conformity with the relevant national standard sheets ensures compliance with this requirement
Trang 1510.2 The earth terminals of serviceable adaptors shall be in accordance with the appropriate requirements in Clause 11
These shall be of the same size as the corresponding terminals for live conductors
The earth terminals of adaptors shall be internal; in addition to this they shall be fixed
to the body or to a part which is securely attached to the body
10.3 Earthing contacts shall be capable of carrying a current equal to that specified for the phase contacts, without overheating
Compliance is checked by the test of Clause 22
10.4 Earthing contacts of domestic socket-outlets shall comply with relevant national standards
Compliance is checked as prescribed in the relevant national standards
The use of components with removable terminals is permitted but the connections shall be made by soldering, welding, crimping or by similar means
Compliance is checked by inspection and by means of the tests specified below as appropriate
11.3 Parts of terminals, other than screws, nuts, washers, stirrups, clamping plates and the like, shall be either of
- copper,
- an alloy containing at least 58 % copper for parts that are worked cold or at least
50 % copper for other parts,
- or other metal not less resistant to corrosion than copper and having mechanical properties no less suitable
Steel screws shall be adequately protected against corrosion
Compliance is checked by inspection and by chemical analysis
Trang 1611.4 Serviceable adaptors shall be fitted with terminals which ensure that copper conductors having nominal cross-sections from 1 mm2 to 2,5 mm2 are correctly connected
The plug part terminals shall comply with the standard sheets 2-X and/or 2-XI of
EN 60309-2
The socket-outlet part terminals shall comply with the relevant national standards
11.5 Terminals with screw clamping shall allow the conductor to be connected without special preparation
Compliance is checked by inspection
NOTE The term "special preparation" covers soldering of wires of the conductor, use of cable lug, formation of eyelets etc., but not reshaping of the conductor before its introduction into the terminal or the twisting of a flexible conductor to consolidate the end
11.6 Terminals with screw clamping shall have adequate mechanical strength Screws and nuts for clamping the conductors shall have a metric ISO thread or a thread comparable in pitch and mechanical strength
Screws shall not be of metal which is soft or liable to creep, such as zinc or aluminium
Compliance is checked by inspection and by the tests of 11.8 and 11.10
NOTE For a temporary period, measure SI, BA and UN threads will be considered as being of equivalent pitch and mechanical strength to ISO metric threads
11.7 Terminals shall be so designed that they clamp the conductor between metal surfaces with sufficient contact pressure and without damage to the conductor
Compliance for the plug part is checked by inspection and the type tests of the terminals of 11.8 and 11.9 of EN 60309-2, applied to three separate terminals
Compliance for the socket-outlet part is checked by inspection and the type tests of the terminals of the relevant national standards
11.8 Terminals shall be properly fixed to the adaptor and shall not work loose when the clamping screws or nuts are tightened or loosened
Screws and nuts for clamping the conductors shall not serve to fix any other component
NOTE 1 The clamping means for the conductor may be used to stop rotation or displacement of the adaptor contacts
Compliance is checked by inspection and, if necessary, by the test of 25.1
NOTE 2 These requirements do not preclude terminals that are floating or terminals so designed that rotation or displacement of the terminal is prevented by the clamping screw or nut, provided that their movement is appropriately limited and does not impair the correct operation of the adaptor
NOTE 3 Terminals may be prevented from working loose by fixing with two screws, by fixing with one screw in a recess such that there is no appreciable play, or by other suitable means
Trang 17NOTE 4 Covering with sealing compound without other means of locking is not deemed to be sufficient Self-hardening resins may, however, be used to lock terminals which are not subjected to torsion in normal use
11.9 Clamping screws or nuts of earthing terminals shall be adequately locked against accidental loosening, and it shall not be possible to loosen them without the use of a tool
Compliance is checked by inspection and by manual test
11.10 Earthing terminals with screw clamping shall be such that there is no risk of
corrosion resulting from contact between them and the copper of the earthing conductor, or any other metal that is in contact with them
The body of the earthing terminal shall be of brass or other metal no less resistant to corrosion
Compliance is checked by inspection
NOTE Screws or nuts of plated steel withstanding the corrosion test are considered to be of a metal no less resistant to corrosion than brass
11.11 Terminals shall be so located or shielded that
- screws becoming loose from the terminals can not establish any electrical connection between live parts and metal parts connected to the earthing terminal,
- conductors becoming detached from live terminals cannot touch metal parts connected to the earthing terminal,
- conductors becoming detached from the earthing terminal cannot touch live parts
Compliance is checked by inspection and by manual test
11.12 W hen the conductors have been correctly fitted, there shall be no risk of
accidental contact between live parts of different polarity or between such parts and accessible metal parts, and, should a wire of a stranded conductor escape from the terminal, there shall be no risk that wires emerge from the enclosure
Compliance is checked by inspection, and, where the risk of accidental contact between live parts and other metal parts is concerned, by the following test
A 6 mm length of insulation is removed from the end of a flexible conductor having a cross-section area in the middle of the range specified in 11.4 One wire of the stranded conductor is left free and the other wires are fully inserted into and clamped
NOTE If necessary the test is repeated with the free wire in another position
