It is r commen ed that pe son el should be q al f ied in ac ordanc with EN ISO 9 1 or an eq iv lent

s an ard at an a pro riat e level in the r lev nt in us ry se t or

The ex mination is normaly pe formed on welds in the as‑welded con ition; however, for ex mple

w hen r q ir d b an a plcation s an ard or b a r ement betwe n the contracting p rties, the

ex mination ma be also car ied out at othe s ag es d ring the welding proc s , such as for che king

the weld pr paration an d ring the welding, for ev luating the efe tive a plcation of the r lev nt

welding proc d r spe ification [1]

5.2 Visual examination of joint preparation

When visual ex mination is r q ir d prior t o welding, the joint pr p ration shal be ex mined t o

che k that the sha e, dimensions and the cleaning con itions of the weld pr p ration me t the

spe if ied r q ir ment given in the r lev nt s an ards and/ r in the a plca le welding proc d r

spe if ication [1]

During this ex mination spe ial att ention should be p id t o the cor e t f ixing of the p rt t o be welded

(e.g l near an angular algnment, g p)

5.3 Visual examination dur ing welding

When r q ir d, in the case of multip s welding proc s es, the weld shal be ex mined d ring the

welding proc s t o che k that:

a) each ru is cleaned an / r sc a ed befor it is co e ed b subseq ent ru s;

b) the e ar no visible impe fe tions ( uch as c acks or ca ities), if impe fe tions ar o se ved,

they shal be r p rt ed immediat ely so that r medial action can be taken befor the ex ecution of

thenext run;

c) the transition between the ru s an betwe n the weld an the p r nt mat erial is so formed that

satis act ory penetration can be ac ompl shed w hen welding the next ru ;

d) aft er any ne es ary r p irs/ remedial action, the weld conforms t o the original r q ir ment of the

welding proc d r spe ification

5.4 Visual examination of the finished weld

Welds shal be ex mined in the as‑welded con ition an shal also be ex mined aft er any surfac

tr atment ( if any)

The finished weld shal be ex mined t o det ermine w hethe it me t the r q ir ment of the a pl cation

or prod ct s an ard or othe a r ed ac eptanc c it eria, on the b sisof spe if ic q alty levels asdef ined

in EN1 2 6

Al the impe fe tions that ar not pe mis ible shal ber p rt ed

5.5 Visual examination of repaired welds

When a weld fais t o comply w hol y or in p rt with the a plca le ac eptanc c it eria and r p ir is

ne es ary, the r p ir d weld shal be r ‑ex mined t o the same r q ir ment as the original weld

6 Test r eport

When t es r cords ar r q ir d, at leas the folowing information shal be inclu ed in the r port :

a) name of the comp nent man factur r;

b) name of the ex mining b dy, if dife ent rom the comp nent man factur r;
