Foreword
This standard was prepared by CEN/TC 155,
Plastics piping systems and ducting systems
This standard is based on the International
Standard ISO 3603:1977 Fittings for unplasticized
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for pressure pipes with
elastic sealing ring type joints — Pressure test for
leakproofness, prepared by the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) It is a
modification of ISO 3603:1977 for reasons of
applicability to other plastics materials and/or other
test conditions and alignment with texts of other
standards on test methods
The modifications are:
— no specific material is mentioned;
— test parameters, except those common to all
plastics, are omitted;
— no material-dependent requirements are
given;
— editorial changes have been introduced
The material-dependent parameters and/or
performance requirements are incorporated in the
System Standard(s) concerned
No existing European Standard is superseded by
this standard
This standard is one of a series of standards on test
methods which support System Standards for
plastics piping systems and ducting systems
This European Standard shall be given the status of
a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by
October 1994, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by October 1994
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal
Regulations, the following countries are bound to
implement this European Standard: Belgium,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands,
Norway, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom
Trang 71 Scope
This European Standard specifies a method for
testing the leaktightness, under internal
hydrostatic pressure without end thrust, of
assemblies between fittings with elastomeric
sealing rings and thermoplastics components for
pressure piping systems
2 Principle
A test piece consisting of a pipe and fitting assembly
having at least one joint of the type to be tested is
exposed at a specified temperature to a specified
internal hydrostatic pressure without associated
end thrust The leaktightness of the assembled joint
in air is checked during the test period, when the
pressure is higher than the nominal pressure for
which the pipe is rated
NOTE It is assumed that the following test parameters are set
by the standard making reference to this standard:
a) the free length, L, of the pipe in the test assembly
(see clause 4 and Figure 1);
b) the test temperature, T, in degrees Celsius (see clause 5);
c) the test pressure, p (see clause 5).
3 Apparatus
WARNING It is necessary to take account of the
consequences of failure of the components under
pressure and to contain the test piece or apparatus
accordingly
3.1 Pressure source, connected to the test piece,
capable of maintaining a specified internal water
pressure to an accuracy of ± 2 %
3.2 Compensating device, to prevent longitudinal
forces being imposed on the test piece by end thrust
induced by internal hydrostatic pressure
3.3 Pressure measuring device, capable of checking
conformity of the test pressure to 3.1 and clause 5.
NOTE Means may be necessary for control of temperature.
4 Test piece
The test piece shall consist of an assembly of
pipe-section(s) and fitting(s) or socketed pipe(s)
including at least one joint of the type to be tested
Components for the test piece shall not be
assembled until at least 24 h after their production
The assembly shall comprise the combination,
within the applicable tolerances, of the smallest
available spigot diameter, the largest available
socket diameter in the zone of the sealing ring
housing and, if not anchored, a seal of the smallest
available cross section
The length(s) of the section(s) of pipe to be connected
shall be such that the free length, L, of pipe between
sockets and between a socket and the test equipment(s) or terminal seal(s) shall be at least equal to the nominal outside diameter of the pipe with a minimum of 250 mm unless otherwise specified in the referring standard (see Figure 1)
The assembly of the joints shall be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
5 Procedure
Set up the test piece in the test equipment, with seals and supports such that longitudinal stresses
will be compensated (see 3.2).
Fill the test piece with water at the specified
temperature T ± 2 °C.
Ensure that all air is removed and excluded from the test piece for the remainder of the procedure
Secure the test piece to the apparatus
Wait at least 20 min, to ensure equalization of temperature
Remove any moisture from the outside surface of the test piece
Apply pressure at a steady rate so as to achieve the
specified hydrostatic test pressure, p [see item c) of
the note to clause 2], in (30 ± 5) s, except for testing
fittings for pipes of nominal outside diameters greater than 630 mm
Key
Lis the free length of the pipe

In such cases, achieve the specified hydrostatic test
pressure, p, in the shortest time practicable
between 30 s and 300 s, depending on the size of the
test piece components and capabilities of the
pressurizing equipment
Record the time taken to achieve the test pressure
Maintain the specified temperature, T,
within ± 2 °C, and pressure, p, within ± 2 %, while
monitoring the apparatus for any indication of a loss
of pressure and the test piece for any signs of
leakage for a period of at least 1 h or until prior
failure as follows:
a) terminate the test and record the observations
if the pressure cannot be maintained and the
losses occurred at or within one pipe diameter of
the joint under test;
b) repeat the test if the pipe(s) fail(s) at a position
further than one diameter from the joint(s) under
test
6 Test report
The test report shall include the following information:
a) a reference to this standard and to the referring standard;
b) the identity of the components [e.g fitting(s), pipe(s), seal(s)] comprising the joints under test and their measured dimensions;
c) the free length(s), L, of the pipe component(s) of
the test piece, in millimetres;
d) the test temperature, T, in degrees Celsius;
e) the test pressure, p, in bars1);
f) the time taken to achieve the test pressure, p, and the time under pressure, t, in minutes;
g) a report of any signs of leakage observed or otherwise a statement that the joint(s) did not leak;
h) any factors which may have affected the results, such as any incidents or any operating details not specified in this standard;
i) the date of test
