described by NASAat the time assome of 'the worst since

return to the Arctic, Ben plans to ski solo from the Antarctic

coast to the South Pole and back in the autumn, carrying

all his supplies on his sledge - 1,800 miles, 200-odd

kilogrammes, minus 40 degrees Centigrade

a) MoonWalk?

The MoonWalk is a power-walking

marathon set up by Walk the Walk, a

charity that raises money for breast

5 cancer all over the world Participants

always wear decorated bras, and that

includes the men!

b)_

As you can see, I'm not a health freak,

10 but for the MoonWalk I need to be in

good general health, so I'll be working

on my stamina and general fitness

levels I'll be going to the gym four

times a week, doing a combination of

1 cardio, aerobics and strength-training

c)

I'm the type of person who likes

chips with my chips, and so I'm a bit

worried about the diet Apparently,

20 carbohydrates are crucial for keeping

energy levels up when you're trainingfor a marathon, but they have to

be the right carbs I'll probably besupplementing my diet with protein

25 drinks and vitamins

During the MoonWalk, it's important

to maintain blood sugar levels, so I'll

be eating energy bars, bananas andother fruit snacks at regular intervals

30 Of course it's also vital to stayhydrated, so I'll be drinking plenty ofwater along the way

d)

Power-walking gear is very similar to

35 running gear: light clothes that allowthe air to circulate and your skin tobreath I'll definitely be investing in agood pair of trainers Although power-walking doesn't put as much pressure

40 on the joints as running does, it's still

essential to have the right supportfor the soles of your feet and yourankles Most of the heat from yourbody escapes from your head, so I'll

45 be wearing a hat And like everybodyelse, I'll be wearing a decorated bra.e)

Any exercise is a huge mental challengefor me It's a constant battle for me to

50 stay motivated enough to keep upwiththe training I need to visualise myselfreaching the finishing line hopefullynot on my hands and knees

Also, in the back of my mind I need

55 to remember the reason for doing this:when I've completed this MoonWalk,I'll have contributed a sum of money

to a very good cause, and that's whatwill keep me going
