- Teacher and students chant altogether with doing the action and clapping hands(Maybe the teacher can slap the desks and funny sounds to make the chant more exciting.)
ACTIVITY 2 : Group work
- Teacher asks students to make groups of six and choose a group leader for each group, then give him/ her group leader a name card to wear (use cards and string to make the name cards for group leaders)
- Teacher tells students about what group leaders have to do
Group leaders: Help teacher hand out things like paper, word cards, etc.
Collect things from students to hand in to the teacher.

ACTIVITY 3: Setting routines: As fast as possible
(Signals for story time / making groups…)
- Teacher uses a tambourine (a bell /a drum) to signal an action like:
* Teacher says Please be quiet then shakes the tambourine (rings a bell /
beats a drum) or asks students to sing Henry Hush says then shakes the tambourine
(rings a bell / beats a drum, etc.)
* Students listen to the teacher and the sound of the tambourine and then do
the action that Teacher has set as routines.
- Teacher then repeats the action until the students can follow as fast as possible
- The students not able to follow the teacher will come to the front to make a group for the next activity
Suggestions: Do something different so that everyone knows it’s time for group
work, pair work, e.g sing/ chant a special one - or wear something special during the story time, e.g a badge, a hat …
ACTIVITY 4: Make the “ Class Rules”
- Teacher has already made some rules before
- Teacher asks students to make groups of six
- Have students make rules for the class in 10 minutes time limit (Teacher goes around the room and supports students to choose at least one DO or DON’T Lead the
students to teacher’s ideas)
- Ask each group to raise their one idea, for example, BE quiet, please.
- Collect all ideas from groups and put the word cards of RULES on the board

Raise your hands when you want to speak.
