INTRODUCTION

Travel is an indispensable part of life It helps people discover many new lands, learn many interesting things, and expand relationships Moreover, tourism plays a very important role in the national economy Fortunately, Ton Duc Thang University that I

am studying at has English for tourism as my English major Besides that, we also study tourism internships which provide me with many real lessons Ton Duc Thang University gives us opportunity to practice experience by they organize tour travel 3 days 2 nights for us

In this Travel English Internship, I studied with Mr Huy, who is an enthusiastic, energetic, and caring teacher for each student In the subject of English for tourism, he always finds and creates useful games for us In the Travel English Internship, the teacher asked me to do more practical things In the first lesson, the teacher randomly selected for us the locations where we would undertake to guide tourists.The purpose

of the trip was to help me gain practical experience and knowledge that is not available

in books I received my mission presentation about Bao Loc Pass, Ba Co Temple, The Mother of Peace, Lam Dong On my route from Lam Dong to Da Lat, on the way through Lam Dong, we would pass through Bao Loc Pass, Ba Co Temple, and The Mother of Peace At Bao Loc Pass I would talk about some information including geography, history, weather, and traffic situation When we passed Ba Co Temple, I would tell them the story about the three girls And after that, as the tour guide, I would show them the most impressive feature about the Statue of the Mother of Peace During the trip, I learned a lot of real lessons such as how to deal with bad problems, how to control myself in front of all the passengers, and learned how to handle accidental situations

Ton Duc Thang University is a school that teaches me a lot of interesting things that I have never experienced Mr Huy especially brings interesting and engaging lessons Not only that, but he also taught them useful lessons in life later Travel English Internship is a subject that helps us better understand the tourism industry, besides learning theory, the school also allows us to practice This report contains 3 parts Part

1 is the itinerary which I will give some detail about specific schedule everyday and

my destination P rt 2 is the tour guide’s procedure I need to be well equipped with knowledge before the trip and how to handle situations during the trip And the last part is the difference between theory and practice, I have to compare the fact that there are many differences compared to what we learn in books

2.1 Before the trip

The tour guide is the "boss" of the trip, controlling all passengers and treating tourists equally To have the best trip from Nha Trang to Da Lat which includes Bao Loc Pass,

Ba Co Temple, The Mother of Peace I spent 2 months preparing to become a professional guide Everything that I prepare is carefully guided by the instructor Hoang Khac Huy

In English, for Tourism I studied the theory of the steps to become a tour guide but in this Travel English Internship, I applied measurement theory and practice At the first lesson, Mr Huy gave me a place where I had to act as a tour guide After I received

my route, Mr Huy would instruct me step by step to complete my mission There is 5 step in all:

The first step, I researched information about the route from Lam Dong to Da Lat especially in Bao Loc Pass, Ba Co Temple, The Mother of Peace

The second step, I created an outline for my presentation that took one week In the outline I give a brief hint of the parts I want to cover about my place The outline is brief but must be full of important parts that need to be in a presentation The outline includes three parts: pre-presentation, presentation, post-presentation

From the place of going to Da Lat, we will pass through Bao Loc pass On the way through Bao Loc Pass, we will pass Ba Co Temple and stop at Our Lady of Binh An So I will share with you a little information about Ba Co Temple and Our Lady of Binh An We depart at 6 AM and arrive at 11 AM Because our journey is quite long, I will organize games such as sing-song, match words, chase pictures and catch words and so on There will be a penalty for the losers

First of all Bao Loc Pass is a mountain pass about 10 km long, located on Da Huoai valley and Di Linh plateau, Bao Loc city on Highway 20 in Lam Dong province The pass is also known as B'Lao Pass or a more mystical sounding name than Ba Co Pass to recall the tragic accident that killed three girls in 1975 Second the pass is 23 km from Lam Dong - Dong Nai border, 170 km from

Ho Chi Minh City to the northeast In addition, from the foot of the pass to Bao Loc city center about 25 km, 135 km southwest of Da Lat city, all follow National Highway 20.The annual average temperature is 21-22°C the highest temper ture in the ye r is 27.4 °C Lowest temper ture of the ye r 16.6 °C The pass was built and opened in 1973, with a length of 10 km, a total of about 108 dangerous twists and turns on the whole route

Next is the traffic situation about the pass There are hills and steep cliffs on one side, and an abyss in one place The road is narrow with only 2 lanes, so every year there are many accidents here, most of them falling into the abyss The reason is because on Bao Loc pass there is an extremely dangerous bend, but most of the vehicles traveling on the pass are 50-seat passenger cars, trucks and motorbikes, so it is easy to collide with each other

in Saigon On summer vacation, three girls went from Saigon to Bao Loc in a passenger car Because the driver was driving too fast, the car overturned and killed all passengers in the car Not long after that, a tourist car to Da Lat city also overturned and plunged into the cliff In the group there were four survivors including a young man and three girls Although very weak after the accident, all four managed to climb up to the road surface When he reached the road surface, due to exhaustion, the young man fainted When he woke up, the boy found himself in the hospital, but the other three girls were nowhere to be found The boy asked everyone that they only saw him lying on the side of the road without seeing anyone else, and that the rest of the people in the convoy had died, including no girl as he described The mystery here is that the girls the boy describes are very similar to the three girls who died earlier It is said that because they died too young, the souls of the three girls are still wandering at the foot of the pass After that time, the people here established a small temple to pray for the souls of those who died unjustly in car accidents and especially the souls of three young girls Since then, car accidents at the bend have decreased, and after that, the three girls are no longer seen

The fourth step, passengers are at the heart of the tourism industry So in order to attract the attention and interest of customers, I created a leaflet that describes the place I want customers to experience Mr Huy recommended a few handy tools to help me edit and place photographs properly Leaflets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including single fold, cross fold, open gate fold, and so on However, I picked the concertina fold since it is appropriate for the place that I am introducing to the guests It took me two weeks to finish a booklet that I really enjoy

7 The fifth step, it takes a lot of effort to provide a fluid and natural presentation, especially when it comes to the voice and gestures So that listeners may hear what they care about, speech should be loud and clear If the limb motions are not fluid and natural, the listener will become fatigued and unhappy That's why Huy gave us the opportunity to practice at home by letting me record a video of my own presentation
