1 Warm-up: (5 mins)
- Rewrite the following sentences using the given cues:
a) They completed Sydney Opera House in 1973 (Passive form)
-> Sydney Opera House………
b) Nga asked me: “Is Phong Nha Cave in southern Viet Nam?” (Reported
speech)

- Ask Ss to retell the way to change the
active form of past simple tense into
passive form
- Consolidate the form of passive form of
past simple tense

- Have Ss use the given words in brackets
to complete the sentences, using passive
form of past simple tense

change a yes-no question into an indirect
question

Cave was in southern Viet Nam.
b) Nhi asked Nga: “Do you know My Son,
Nga?”
-> Nhi asked Nga if/whether she knew My
Son.

Suggested answer: When we change a direct yes-no question into an indirect question, we must change the question into affirmative sentence, then follow the rules of changing an affirmative sentence into a reported speech.
