CHAPTER I: BACKGROUND

1 Background

Nowadays, part-time job is very popular among college students It is gradually becoming an essential part in their lives Although there are various choices in different fields, most of them tend to work by the industry they choose at school Therefore, I will do a research on part-time job tendency of IBD students

2 Rationale/ purpose of the research

As we know, these days young people in Vietnam always want to have a part-time job while they are in university It has become really popular among students and even adults, as it is affordable and easily becomes “addictive” Consequently, in the need of finding part-time jobs, this brings more working experiences to college students Therefore, I decided to do a research in order to have a deeper understanding about IBD students’ point of view on the trend of working part-time jobs

In my research, I would like to gather some information about IBD Intake 14 students’ perspective on the trend of working part-time jobs It will help me understand more about the jobs and the reasons why they are interested in doing part-time work

3 Research questions

- What is the real situation of IBD students doing part-time jobs?

- What are the opinions of IBD students on the advantages and disadvantages of doing part-time job?

- How do IBD students think they can overcome challenges when they do part-time jobs?

4 Methodology

To present, I use two main data sources: Primary Data and Secondary Data

* Primary Data:

- The research survey questionnaire seek information about salary, times, when people have part-time jobs

- The questions will be given out to about 50 students at IBD to address the most relevant and effective questions

4

Trang 5

- The answers will be collected and used as information for the research.

* Secondary Data:

- Look up some information for research on the Internet, articles, magazines or other sources, which are taken before and have the keyword of “Part-time jobs"

- The information and statistic that relate to the topics will be analyzed, then decide which could

be useful for our research

CHAPTER II: LITERATURE REVIEW

1 Definition of part-time job

That is the term used to refer to part-time jobs, often targeting subjects: students, housewives taking advantage of free time to earn extra income Besides, working part time is also a way for you to learn and accumulate experience, thicken your CV when you apply for a job in the future

In the restaurant industry - the hotel has many positions to recruit employees as part time so that candidates can apply for: Service staff, Kitchen accessories, Reception the most popular is the Service staff These positions often do not require experience, instead of the hard work, agility of candidates

2 About the time

You do not have time constraints, do not need to be present at work You are also entitled to give your free time to the employer to arrange and assign accordingly This is also the biggest advantage of part time work

3 About the income

Salary depends on your agreement with the employer but is often not a fixed number because it depends on the quality of work, the size of the business, the importance of the job

4 Welfare policy

Part-time jobs have absolutely no or very few policies and social benefits such as health insurance, social insurance, and unemployment insurance At the same time, you will not be allowed to participate in activities of the unit such as periodic health examination, team building And you will work for a short time so do not have a long-term contract, so the chances for advancement are very few

Trang 6

5 Advantages and disadvantages of doing part-time jobs

Advantages:

Work experience: Part-time work brings a real work experience This work experience will help get a job after completing the research Employers look for employees who understand the working environment and work well as part of the team Having a part-time experience shows that you have some contact with the professional world and it will bring advantages over other candidates in the job search process

Money: Of course, money is the factor that leads you to a part-time job You can pay your bills, pay your tuition, buy what you need, and that will reduce the cost of your education compared to your parents

Money management: No one makes a budget with the pocket money they get from their parents, but when you start making money and you spend hard-earned money, then you start thinking about it and plan on how to how and where you will spend your money and how much you spend and how much you save

Time management: Doing work with learning makes you have less time and busy schedules, so you have to manage time in such a way that both your study and work will not be affected Develop useful skills: In your part-time job, you will develop many useful skills that will help you in professional life such as teamwork, organizational skills, multi-tasking, management time, skills to meet initiatives in work, etc

Opportunity to connect: Yes, in your part-time job, you will meet many people from the professional world This is an opportunity to grow your network

Disadvantages

Influence learning: While working part-time, you will have a busy schedule and you will have less time to study and yourself You will not have time to relax, so you feel tired and exhausted and your learning will be done

6

Trang 7

There are no additional benefits: Part-time employees often do not receive benefits such as health insurance, sick leave, vacation pay, etc If you get sick and take leave then you will not be paid for that

No job security: There is less work security for the timer In bad times, often companies put them out before the full timers

Health: Because you will have a busy schedule and have less time for yourself, it will also affect your health

Distraction from research: Sometimes, the timer department has a good income and that may cause them to lose focus on research The more money you have, the more you think about it
