II GRAMMAR: (Ngữ pháp)

1- Tính từ (Adjectives)

Tính từ là những từ dùng để miêu tả, được dùng để bổ sung ý nghĩa cho danh từ hoặc đại từ (về kích cỡ, hình dáng, tuổi tác, màu sắc, v.v.)

Ex:big (to), tall (cao), young (trẻ), red (đỏ), slow (chậm), good (tốt), dangerous (nguy hiểm), careful (cẩn thận)

- Lan is beautiful (Lan rất xinh đẹp.)

- He is fat.(Ông ta béo.)

- Lam has short hair (Lâm có mái tóc ngắn.)

* Cách sử dụng tính từ trong việc miêu tả người hoặc vật:

a - Cấu trúc miêu tả người hoặc vật với động từ to be:

Chủ ngữ + to be + tính từ.

Lưu ý: Ta cần chia động từ to be phù hợp với chủ ngữ:

Ex: - I am thin (Tôi gầy.)

- This flower is red (Bông hoa này màu đỏ.)

b - Cấu trúc miêu tả ai đó có những bộ phận trên cơ thể mang đặc điểm nào đó với động từ

“have”

Chủ ngữ + have + tính từ + danh từ.

Lưu ý:

- Ta cần chia động từ “have” là “have” hoặc “has” tương ứng với chủ ngữ.

- Khi các bộ phận được miêu tả hay danh từ sau “have” là danh từ số ít, các em cần thêm a (khi

âm đầu tiên của tính từ ngay sau nó là phụ âm) hoặc an (khi âm đầu tiên của tính từ ngay sau nó là

nguyên âm) ở phía trước tính từ

Ex:

He has a round face (Cậu ấy có khuôn mặt tròn.)

He has small eyes (Cậu ấy có đôi mắt bé.)

2 – Hỏi và trả lời về màu sắc (Ask and answer about colors)

a/ Chủ ngữ là danh từ số ít hoặc danh từ không đếm được:

Câu hỏi: What color + is + chủ ngữ?

Trả lời: It is (It’s) + màu sắc.

Ex::

What color is her hair? (Tóc của cô ấy màu gì?) It’s brown (Nó màu nâu.)

b/ Chủ ngữ là danh từ số nhiều:

Câu hỏi: What color + are + chủ ngữ?

Trả lời: They are (They’re) + màu sắc.

Ex:

What color are her eyes? (Mắt bạn ấy màu gì?) They’re black (Chúng màu đen.)

2 – Câu hỏi lựa chọn sử dụng “or” với động từ to be (“Or” questions with to be)

a/ Hỏi một người/ một vật mang đặc điểm nào trong hai đặc điểm được nêu ra:

Khi đó chủ ngữ là các ngôi “he/ she/ it” hoặc danh từ số ít hay danh từ không đếm được

Câu hỏi: Is + chủ ngữ + tính từ 1 + or + tính từ 2?

Trả lời: Chủ ngữ + is + tính từ 1/ tính từ 2.

Ex:

- Is her hair brown or black? It’s brown (Nó màu nâu.)

- Is he weak or strong?(Anh ta yếu hay khỏe?) He is weak (Anh ta yếu.)

b/ Hỏi nhiều người hay nhiều vật mang đặc điểm nào trong hai đặc điểm được nêu ra:

Khi đó chủ ngữ là các ngôi “you/ we/ they” hoặc danh từ số nhiều

Câu hỏi: Are + chủ ngữ + tính từ 1 + or + tính từ 2?

Trả lời: Chủ ngữ + are + tính từ 1/ tính từ 2.

Are her eyes big or small? (Mắt cô bé to hay nhỏ vậy?) They’re small (Mắt cô bé nhỏ.) Are those exercises easy or difficult? They are difficult (Chúng khó.)

Lưu ý: Ta có thể thay thế thành phần tính từ bằng danh từ.

Ex:

Is your mother a doctor or a nurse? (Mẹ của bạn là bác sĩ hay y tá?) She is a nurse
