GRAMMAR

1 COMPLEX SENTENCES (CÂU PHỨC)

Câu phức (complex sentence) là câu có một mệnh đề độc lập (independent clause)

và một hoặc nhiều hơn một mệnh đề phụ thuộc (dependent clause)

a Dependent clauses of purpose(Mệnh đề phụ chỉ mục đích)

– So that/ in order that (để mà): là mệnh đề phụ được dùng để chỉ mục đích của hành động ở

mệnh đề chính

Ex: Some people eat in order that they may live.aa

She learnt hard so that she might get the scholarship.

b Dependent clauses of reason(Mệnh đề phụ chỉ lý do)

– because, since (do, vì, bởi vì): là mệnh đề phụ được dùng để chỉ lý do của hành động ở

mệnh đề chính

Ex: The flight to London was cancelled because the weather was bad.

She didn’t go to school since she got ill.

c Dependent clauses of time(Mệnh đề phụ chỉ thời gian)

– when; while; after; before; as soon as; ….: là các từ bắt đầu đứng trước mệnh đề phụ chỉ

thời gian

Ex: Lets go for a pizza after we go to the natural history museum.

It’ll be wonderful when scientists have found a cure for cancer.

The villagers have to dry the buffalo skin under the sun before they make the drumheads.

d Dependent clauses of contrast(Mệnh đề phụ chỉ sự tương phản)

– Though/ although/ even though (dù, mặc dù, cho dù): là các từ bắt đầu đứng trước các

mệnh đề phụ chỉ sự tương phản của hai hành động trong cùng một câu

Ex: Although I learnt hard, I didn’t get high grades.

They would like to go out, though it is raining

Đặt dấu phẩy câu trong câu phức:

Câu phức phải có một mệnh đề độc lập và ít nhất một mệnh đề phụ thuộc Mệnh đề phụ thuộc này có thể ở đầu câu, giữa câu hoặc cuối câu Nếu mệnh đề phụ thuộc đứng đầu câu (trước mệnh đề độc lập) thì dấu phẩy được đặt giữa hai mệnh đề, nếu ngược lại thì không có dấu phẩy giữa hai mệnh đề

Tớnh từ bổ nghĩa cho danh từ Đứng trước danh từ và sau động từ tobe

Trong tiếng Anh chỉ có một danh từ duy nhất đứng sau danh từ mà nó bổ nghĩa đó là:

galore ( nhiều, phong phú, dồi dào).

Ví dụ:

There are errors galore in the final exam

-Trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ, đứng sau động từ or một trạng từ khỏc:

He runs very fast She is terribly beautiful

- Adj + ly = adv

:Lovely, friendly, lonely

1 Comparatives:

* Short adjectives and adverbs:

S1 + be/ V + adj/ adv (short) + er + than + noun/ pronoun

E.g: You are thinner than he (is).

He runs faster than I (do).

Today is hotter than yesterday

I am three years older than you are

* Long adjectives and adverbs:

S1 + V + more + adj/ adv (long) + than + noun/ pronoun

E.g: He is more intelligent than I (am).

He drives more carefully than I (do).

- Để nhấn mạnh, ta cú thể thờm much, a lot, far, a bit, a little vào trước so sỏnh hơn

Eg: Let’s go by car It’s much cheaper

- So sỏnh kộm hơn: S + V + less + Adj/ Adv + than + noun/ pronoun

Eg: This book is less difficult than that one

2 Equal comparisons: (equal degree)

* Form:

(+) S 1 + be/ V + as + adj / adv + as + S 2 + aux

E.g: He is as old as my father.

- Đại từ làm chủ ngữ luôn được sử dụng sau “as”: You are as old as he

- We use equal degree when we want to emphasize how many times this object is more than that one

E.g: Her husband is twice as old as she (is).

- Ý “bằng nhau, như nhau” có thể được thay thế bằng cách diễn đạt khác:

S + V + the same + (noun) + as + noun/ pronoun

Ex: My house is as high as his = My house is the same height as his

*Eg: - Jane said,” I live in the suburbs”

-> Jane said that she lived in the suburbs.

- Ngôi thứ hai ( You, your, yours ) được đổi theo ngôi của tân ngữ trong mệnh đề tường thuật

*Eg: - He said to me,” You can take my book”

-> He said me that I could take his book.

- Ngôi thứ ba ( He, She, It, They, him, his, her ,them ,their) giữ nguyên (Không đổi)

*Eg: - Mary says,” They come to help the pupils.”

-> Mary said that they came to help the pupils

Trong lời nói gián tiếp loại câu này được bắt đầu bằng động từ: asked, told, ordered, advised,

Eg: -“ Hurry up, Lan”

-> He told Lan to hurry up.

- “ Shut the door”

-> He ordered them to shut the door.

- “ Don’t leave the room”

-> He told them not to leave the room.

- “ You should stop chatting on the Internet, Mark,” Jane said

-> Jane advised Mark to stop chatting on the Internet.

S + V ( asked / told / advised ) + O + to ( not to ) + infinitive.

* Chú ý : Một số động từ khác cũng được sử dụng theo hình thức trên: persuade, remind, forbid, warn,….

Trong lời nói gián tiếp loại câu hỏi này được mở đầu bằng các động từ “ ask, wonder …” và theo sau có “if/ whether”

*Eg: - “ Have you seen that film?” he told her

-> He asked if she had seen that film.

- “ Will Tom be here tomorrow?.” She told

-> She wondered whether Tom would be there the day after.

*Strutures ( Công thức):

S + asked / wanted to know + (O) + If / whether + clause ( lùi thì ).

2 Wh – questions ( who,what, where, why, when,how much/ many/ long” trong câu gián tiếp loại câu này được mở đầu bằng các động từ “ ask, require, wonder, ”

* Eg: - “ What time does the film begin?.”

-> He asked what time the film begun

- “ What will you do tomorrow?

-> She wondered what I would do the next day

*Strutures (Công thức):

S + asked / wanted to know + wh-qs + clause ( lùi thì )

III Câu phát biểu (Statements).

Trong câu gián tiếp loại câu phát biểu này thường được bắt đầu bằng các động từ như “ said, told ”

* Eg: - He told me, “ I like oranges.”
