2 The past simple (thì Quá Khứ Đơn )
1 Form: a To be:
Affirmative: S + was/ were (I, He, She, It, 1 : was
Negative: S + was/ were not We, You, They, 2 : were)
Interrogative: Was/ Were + S … ?
Ex: He was at school yesterday
Mr Nhat wasn’t in that hotel last night
Were they in Nha Trang last year?
b Ordinary verb (Động từ thường)

2 Cách dùng :
Thì quá khứ đơn dùng để diễn tả hành động xảy ra và hoàn tất trong quá khứ với thời gian xác định rõ Các trạng từ thường được dùng: yesterday, ago, last week/month/year, in the past, in 1990
Ex: - He was a doctor in this hospital from 1997 to 2005

3 Cách thêm đuôi “ ed” trong các động từ có qui tắc
- Động từ tận cùng đã là “e + d”: hope – hoped, arrive – arrived,…
- Động từ tận cùng là “ y” thì “đổi y thành i + ed”: carry – carried,…………
- Động từ một âm tiết tận cùng là một phụ âm và trước nó là một nguyên âm ta phải gấp đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm ed: stop – stopped, beg – begged,…
4 Cách phát âm đuôi “ ed”:
- /id/: Khi tận cùng của động từ có chứa “ t, d”: want – wanted, decide – decided,…
- /t/ : Khi động từ có tận cùng là: “ k, p, s, gh, ch, sh, f, ce ”: look – looked, stop – stopped,…
- /d/ : Tận cùng là các nguyên âm và phụ âm còn lại trừ hai trường hợp trên: arrive – arrived,
…
5 Simple Sentences (câu đơn)
- Chỉ có 1 mệnh đề chính, nghĩa là có 1 chủ ngữ và 1 động từ
- Có thể chủ ngữ là 2 danh từ nối bằng 'and' hoặc có 2 động từ nối bằng 'and' nhưng vẫn là 1 câu đơn
Ví dụ:
I went to the supermarket yesterday (Tôi đi siêu thị ngày hôm qua)
Mary and Tom are playing tennis (Mary và Tom đang chơi tennis)
My brother ate a sandwich and drank beer (Anh tôi ăn bánh và uống bia)
6 Compound sentence (Câu ghép)
- Câu ghép (Compound sentence) được cấu tạo bởi 2 hay nhiều mệnh đề độc lập (Independent clause) Các mệnh đề này thường được nối với nhau bởi liên từ (conjunction), có thể thêm dấu phẩy hoặc dấu chấm phẩy trước liên từ đó ( and, but, so , because)
- Liên từ and: dùng để cộng thêm vào
Ví dụ: I like playing the guitar and I often go to the guitar club (Tôi thích chơi ghi-ta và tôi thường đến câu lạc bộ ghi-ta)
7 Liking / disliking : enjoy/ love/ like/ hate/ dislike + V-ing
