Learn the following words and then answer the questions.
1 Overrun (v.): to overwhelm, to infest; to continue above an expected time or
cost.
The British army managed to overrun the German forces on D-Day.
2 Playful (adj.): fond of games and amusement, light-hearted, lively.
Timmy is such a playful boy; he loves to have fun all the time.
3 Prevent (v.): to stop something happening, block, halt.
I tried to prevent my friends from leaving the party early.
4 Animate (v.): to bring to life, to liven up, enliven; to make a picture move.
Carla tried to animate the weary hikers who wanted to walk no further.
5 Mediate (v.): to try to end a disagreement, to act as a peacemaker, to moderate.

9 Progression (n.): gradual development to a more advanced state, a number of
things in a series, process, development.

10 Mishandle (v.): deal with something wrongly or ineffectively, mismanage,
misuse.
The prison guard mishandled the situation, and the prisoner escaped.

Vocabulary 12 Learn the following words and then answer the questions 1 Commotion (n.): a confusing and noisy disturbance, racket, clamour There was much commotion during the riot; people were shouting and screaming.
2 Reality (n.): state of things as they actually exist, actuality, real life.
Jane feared that she had failed her test, but in reality she had passed.
3 Submit (v.): to give in to some power or authority; to hand in something.
