Join us on Sunday April 3rd at 1:30pm at the Museum for a program about the Abbey of the Genesee Please note that the program will NOT be at the Abbey as previously advertised Presenter Brother Anthony will share about

a community of more than two dozen contemplative monks located near Piffard They are a member of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, commonly known as the Trappists

A Stone is not just a stone!

Dr Paul Pacheco did not have to travel more than a few blocks from his Chair’s office in the Anthropology Department on the SUNY Geneseo cam-pus to find a treasure trove of worked stones, artifacts, and 18 different types

of arrowheads from Native people Thebes arrowheads and Big Sandy

points in the Museum’s collection are dated to be be-tween 8,000-10,000 years old!

With a specialization in prehistoric North American ar-chaeology, Pacheco is just the right advisor for intern

Ad-am Pease Together they have worked to sort and

identi-fy pieces in the Na-tive American col-lection Samples from this collec-tion, as well as sev-eral D.C Lithgow paintings depicting the mythical story

of Hiawatha, will be on display when the Museum reopens on May 1, 2016

Dollhouse Raffle

A new raffle fundraiser is underway to support educational programming at the Museum! Raffle tickets will be for sale during open hours at the Museum as well as during the Geneseo and Avon

summer festivals

winner will be announce the first Friday in December just in time for Christmas! The dollhouse comes with furnishings and people for

each room!

LCHS will be hosting our annual Attic Treasures fundraiser on August 27th, 2016 We would be happy

to accept your donations until then to sell at this fundraiser LCHS looks for donations of quality and historic items that will then be offered for sale to the public Profits support LCHS’s care of collections Please note that no museum objects will be sold at these sales

Starting May 1, 2016 the Museum will be open on Thursdays and Sundays from 2-5pm, or by appoint-ment Thank you in advance for your contributions

Join us for the unveiling of our new exhibit

which has been several years in the making,

“Our Towns: The History of Livingston County

in 25 Objects.” Exercise your historical

imagina-tion as you encounter the stories and objects left

behind by the generations of people who have

called the seventeen towns of Livingston County

home This exhibit will introduce you to a

hand-ful of the stories that contribute to the mosaic of

life in Livingston County, Representatives from

all towns in the County have contributed objects

and stories that help tell us about early

inhabit-ants, communities, industry, enterprise, and

eve-ryday life in Livingston County

as a LCHS member, you help to determine the

direction of the Livingston County Historical

So-ciety and Museum

Volunteers & Docents Gear Up for 2016 LCHS is so very fortunate to have approximately

30 docents and volunteers who help to keep the doors open between May 1 and October 31

Docents training for this year begins on Friday April 1st and runs each Friday in April from 4-5pm Docents, and interested potential docents, should know that attendance for all sessions is not required Docents this season will be trained about the new exhibits and will also have oppor-tunity to meet with Tourism Director Elissa Leuer to receive “service training for the public.”

I am a sophomore Economics major and Museum Studies mi-nor at SUNY Geneseo I’m from Syracuse, New York and have two siblings At the museum I’m in charge of running social media and advertising events Among these responsibilities are creating flyers and mass emails, researching pieces in the mu-seum to post on facebook, and cataloging inventory into the museum database I would like to someday work in a museum either doing marketing/ social media, creating exhibits, or do-ing somethdo-ing with finance I love to travel so the dream job for me would be working in a museum abroad

CALEB WEISSMAN I’m a Junior History major at SUNY Geneseo with a minor in Museum Studies I am from Elwood, Long Island and I have one brother who has graduated college I have always enjoyed studying and writing about history, which fits perfectly with

my position here which is focused mainly of collections man-agement and making signage I primarily work with the mili-tary collection of the Livingston County Historical Society My hobbies include watch movies and amateur fencing

ADAM PEASE I'm a junior History Major with minors in anthropology and museum studies at Geneseo I come from Watertown, which is

up north of Syracuse, I first became interested in working at the museum after my visit last semester when I heard about the internship opportunities Here at the Museum I work with the Native American collection and am currently working to have an exhibit finished by the end of the semester I have al-ways had an interest in all things Native American, and after working with the archaeology field school through Geneseo last summer my interest increased to an even higher degree
