UT MD Anderson Cancer Center Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Summer Program for Biomedical Research and Animal Models

The summer program in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a 10 week program directed by Vanessa Jensen, DVM,

DACLAM, and Lori Hill, DVM, DACLAM During the program, students will have the

opportunity to perform animal husbandry and healthcare activities for a variety of species, including daily animal care, health rounds, and treatments These rotations will expose the student to common clinical situations found in animal cancer models in the research environment Students will work with the veterinarians and veterinary technologists in pre-, peri-, and post-surgical care Students participate in preparation and transport of animals for imaging studies such as CT, MR, and PET The program includes rotation through clinical and anatomic pathology services

Other activities may include subject matter expert lectures and facility tours at institutions such as

MD Anderson Michale E Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research in Bastrop, Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), UTHSC-H, Texas Heart Institute (THI), the Houston Zoo, and Galveston National Laboratory

To Apply:

Students can apply for the summer program by submitting a resume and letter of interest to Stacy LeBlanc, sleblanc@mdanderson.org, no later than February 1, 2018 Candidate selection will be made no later than February 28, 2018 for an expected start date June 4, 2017

Candidate Requirements:

• Completed sophomore year undergraduate or higher, with interest in applying to veterinary, medical, or other allied health professions school Veterinary or medical students who have completed the first year of professional school are also welcome to apply

• Selected candidate(s) will be required to provide records of immunizations and pass a

background check
