Eric Reed, a partner in Shutts & Bowen LLP’s Orlando office and President of the Orange County Bar
Association (OCBA), spoke at the Fall 2021 New Student Orientation for Florida A&M University
(FAMU) College of Law, welcoming the incoming law students on August 10
Speaking on behalf on the OCBA, Eric greeted the students pursuing their legal education at FAMU
Law and offered an introduction to the local bar association Also speaking during the welcome
address at the “Foundations for Law School Success 2021” event, was a representative from The
Florida Bar, as well as FAMU’s Director of Law School Admissions, the Dean and the University
President The three-day orientation event was mandatory for new students, providing information
on professionalism, bar admission, career planning, registration and student affairs
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was founded as the State Normal College for Colored
Students, and on October 3, 1887, it began classes with fifteen students and two instructors Today,
FAMU, as it has become affectionately known, is the premiere school among historically black
colleges and universities The FAMU College of Law received full accreditation from the American Bar
Association in July 2009 and was re-accredited in 2014
