SEMINOLE HIGH STUDENT WINS HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP (SANFORD, Fla.) Seminole County Public School (SCPS) student, Julie Sparks, a
senior at Seminole High School (SHS) won the third annual scholarship in the Carolyn Bistline History Scholarship Competition Sparks is planning on attending Rollins College with a double major in history and business This scholarship will be used towards her tuition beginning in the Fall of 2016
During her time at SHS, Sparks was the President of the Key Club, regularly competed in track & field and pole-vaulting and maintained a rigorous academic course load She was a perfect candidate for this scholarship due to her passion for history Her essay for this scholarship focused on Henry Sanford, a founding father
of Seminole County
The Seminole County Historical Society has sponsored the scholarship competition for several years Mrs Carolyn Bistline, a former teacher at Lyman Middle School, has personally funded the scholarship for three years to encourage young people to pursue careers and studies in local history
A special ceremony to honor Sparks’ accomplishment will be held at the next meeting of the Historical Society on May 19 at the Museum of Seminole County History, 300 Bush Blvd., Sanford at 1:00 p.m
