a San Francisco District Attorney for over 25 years, including 10 years as head of the Domestic Violence unit She trains and consults for a variety of organization and governmental entities in the areas of elder abuse and domestic violence She has published articles and
designed curricula on elder abuse and domestic violence for judges, law enforcement, protective services workers, advocates, medical personnel and prosecutors She co-authored Elder Abuse Detection and Intervention: A Multidisciplinary Approach and the chapter "Elder Abuse" in the book Victims of Crime A graduate of the University of California's Hastings College of the Law, she was an Assistant Adjunct Professor there for over 20 years She is now part of a national project studying poly-victimization in later life and is working on a Bench Guide for California judges
Description: Professionals who work with
victims of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault increasingly deal with older clients As the population continues to age, the need to serve older parties and to understand aging trends, the continuum of abilities and needs of older clients, the dynamics of abuse and legal remedies that best serve the older victim will increase This presentation will discuss elder abuse and abuse in later life, and describe differences and challenges when pursuing court orders on behalf of elderly victims of various forms of abuse
