*No shaming yourself allowed Let’s work with

ourselves rather than against ourselves

Are you a night owl, or an early riser?

Have you ever failed trying to force yourself into a

habit that just didn’t fit?

Be honest with what you think fits you and where you

are now (It doesn’t have to look like everyone else!)

What is your family situation or circumstances?

What do you need to accomplish to feel good? Are you feeling guilty for putting your needs there? Mom guilt?

What is low priority?

Are you a to-do list person or does that create stress?

Are goals helpful or do they take you down a shame spiral if life gets in the way and you can’t reach it.

What are roadblocks getting in the way of your goals?

Reassess everything every 2 weeks You can set aside time

to think about next steps. You don’t need to stress any farther out than that (especially right now with so much uncertainty in the world).

address it right away? If so then can you do something about it? What is that? Do IT! If you can’t control it, leave it.

● What do you need to clear space for yourself mentally?

● A family check in to see how everyone is feeling?

● Communicate what you need with from your family?

● Check in personally - look back over your day here and there, did

you feel like you “wasted” time somewhere?

● Are there practices that lessen the mommy guilt, like small

designated times with each child? Art project, coloring that feel

creative to you too (If you have those types of kids)

● Acknowledge that this is a season - like postpartum, Your

gathering, resting, dreaming, reflected etc… and that is part of

your work.

WHAT DOES SELF CARE LOOK LIKE TO YOU?

“Yoga, lots of walking, eating the best I can, lots of cuddles from

my family, checking in with each other that “things are ALL RIGHT, and making small

changes/alterations to make sure everyone in our family is feeling comfortable.”

● Celebrate small wins.

● Ask for help! Have an accountability partner.

● Just thinking about art and what you want to do, is creative work in itself.

● Take time to chip away at something Don’t underestimate how small steps can accomplish big goals.

● Write to work through problems, and as part of your practice.

● Have a dedicated space for work A bookshelf or tray counts.

Creative exploration: “ It has two parts The first part takes place

in the world It is looking, thinking and making connections

between things I am drawn to It’s the unique way I see and

translated images and ideas For example, the lines of a

mountain, the slant of light that hits the floor, the lingering

feeling after a good conversation, a few lines of poetry, or an

unusual color combination can all spark a series of paintings.”

- Karina Bania (right)

“Put on foot in front of the other Just do the next best thing Whether it’s staying up late to finish a job or setting the agenda aside because a little person really needs some one-on-one time.”

“Asking for extra help reaching out and admitting you are struggling and asking your partner to help with specific things Schedule a playdate for the kids.”

“It really helps to prioritize Letting go of things that don’t matter so much and just doing the top few that really matter I’ve learned that even if you let the a few things go, somehow the world keeps spinning.”

“The days when the schedule is thrown up

into the air by sick days, or snow days off, or

unexpected revisions to projects, etc; those

are the days where being completely

overwhelmed can derail me For me,

returning to my calendar and trying to do

some last minute organization helps

immensely Also, the mangra that everything

usually works out plays on repeat in my brain

The kids come first and sometimes letting go

and just focusing on just getting through the

hour of that very day is the only thing that

helps.” - Kimberly Glyder

“I say this lovingly now, but after my firstborn I grieved my old life

There were several months that I internally blamed my son, my husband, and the circumstances for why I wasn’t painting

anymore or able to sleep

or to get out the house kid-free But when I stopped fighting and leaned into the life of motherhood, with the help from God, I was able to enjoy each day, with its sacrifices and lack of sleep, more fully.”

“I’ve vowed that any time in my

shelf with art books If i just sit and think, that’s valid use of time If I thumb through beautiful art books, still valid If I hit up upon a new, amazing artistic

discovery, that is time spent in valuable way just as all those other ways They are all steps in the right

direction An artist needs food You’ve got to feed yourself to keep the fire burning.”
