Trang 4How to Get the Most out of the PAHS College Fair
On September 28 th you will have the chance to connect with more than 53 representatives from various
colleges, universities, technical schools and programs as well as military representatives Here are some tips to
make the most out of your experience Making the most of our college fair means planning your strategy
before you enter the gym.
What is a College Fair? A college fair is a great spot to learn about many different schools, all in one place
There, you’ll be able to gather information you’re looking for on potential colleges from college representatives
who are scouting for students that would fit well at their schools
What Should I Say? Don’t be shy! They are there to talk to you and answer all of your questions!
Here are some things to keep in mind:
Before You Go
Find out which colleges will be at the fair (a list is included in this booklet) and write down the names
of the ones you want to learn more about
Make a list of any questions you have
Bring your list, a pen, paper and a bag to hold college brochures
Make sure the email address that you give out won’t embarrass you — remember, college admission
officers will see it
While You’re There
Use the enclosed map of the fair and plan a route that will take you to the booths of all the colleges on
your list
Visit booths and ask college representatives questions For example, you can ask, “What kind of
student are you looking for?” or “What makes your campus special?”
Take a minute to jot down any information you think is important before moving on to the next booth
Check out some of the other booths when you’re done with the colleges on your list You may stumble
onto a great college you hadn't considered
Visit all the general tables Typical topics include applications and financial aid These are good
opportunities to get expert advice
When You Get Home
Ask yourself which colleges stood out and why
Organize the college material you collected and review it that week while it’s fresh in your mind
Go over any notes you took during the fair
If you gathered any pamphlets of colleges you’ve ruled out for sure, recycle them by dropping them
off at the College Success Foundation Office
Do more research on the colleges you’re thinking about Explore websites, contact the admission
office or plan a campus visit If you liked what you saw at the fair, it may be time to see the college in
person
We’ve added some helpful lists of potential questions you could ask college representatives, and ways
you can further prepare based on your HS grade level Best of Luck with your college research!

Trang 5Freshman & Sophomore College Fair Tips
Make a list of majors and careers aligned with your passions and interests If you don’t have any idea, this is your time to explore Start broad and gather information, so later you can narrow down your choices
Find out what classes you would take in college for a major that interests you and make sure you try some similar classes out during high school This will help you decided if that is an area that you will find enjoyable
Talk with people in your areas of interest to learn more about the type of school they attended
Make a list of things that are important to you in a college (size, location, courses of study, general values, access to services, campus life)
Find out what you can be doing in your current year of school to be prepared to apply colleges
of your choice
Junior & Senior College Fair Tips
Make a plan to talk to at least 10 college reps and ask them your specific questions
Come prepared with some specific questions to ask each of those school representatives
If you’re still trying to decide what to do, this is your chance to learn what the different
institutions have to offer Shop around, ask questions, keep a list of things you’re sure you like, as well as things you’re sure you don’t like This will help you narrow things down, when application deadlines are approaching
