CONSIDER AND TAKE POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE AN INCREASE TO THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BUDGET FOR THE DOWNTOWN MONTESORRI SCHOOL TO BE LOCATED IN THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS SYSTEM'S UNIVERSITIES CENTER AT DALLAS AT 1901 MAIN STREET, DALLAS, TEXAS (NOT TO EXCEED $587,OOO GENERAL OPERATING FUNDS)
On December 19, 2019 the Board of Trustees approved a lease agreement and capital improvement budget for the development of the Downtown Montessori School at the University of North Texas System's (UNT) Universities Center at Dallas The funding increase is required for the construction of two stairwells dedicated for the exclusive use of the school, as outlined in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, Life Safety Code and mandated by the State Fire Marshall The District expected the Dallas City Code to apply to the project, which does not require dedicated stairwells, however, as a State entity UNT follows the NFPA Code, which requires the dedicated stairwells
Total cost for the stairwell construction is $865,417 of which UNT has agreed to contribute $150,000 In addition, UNT has agreed to credit the first two months of rent towards the stairwell construction for an additional contribution of $128,417 Total lost to the District would be

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE DALLAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES: That the Board of Trustees approves an increase to the capital improvement budget for the Downtown Montessori School to be located in the University of North Texas System's Universities Center at 1901 Main Street, Dallas, Texas in an amount not to exceed $587,000 General Operating Funds
The Board action shall take effect immediately upon passage unless otherwise noted.
