Jeffrey L Ray, Ph.D., F ASEE, Dean of the Kimmel School and his wife, Tina, have established a scholarship to recognize the achievements of FIRST ® Robotics Competition (FRC®) and/or FIRST ® Tech Challenge (FTC®) participants FIRST is a not-for-profit public charity that designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate
young people to pursue education and career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) The scholarship will initially provide a non- renewable $500.00 scholarship for study in the Kimmel School

The Kimmel School offers several accredited undergraduate and graduate degrees in Construction Management, Engineering, and Technology The Center for Rapid Product Realization of the Kimmel School is a university- based, product development center for inventors, entrepreneurs, and senior capstone project sponsors throughout the Southeast and beyond
To be eligible for the Hopkins and Ray FIRST Robotics Endowed Scholarship the applicant must:
a Be a high school senior accepted and admitted to Western Carolina University with demonstrated participation and success in FIRST Robotics competitions Acceptance to WCU
does not have to occur before submitting the scholarship application
b Submit a 500-word essay regarding how their FIRST experience has impacted their
career decision and goals
c Have a FIRST adult mentor/coach submit a letter of recommendation
The scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award Preference shall be given to a freshman with a declared major within the Engineering and Technology disciplines offered by the Kimmel School In the event no recipient meets this preference, the award may go to any first-year student majoring in a STEM discipline Preference shall also be given to recipients with potential and desire to continue or lead FIRST efforts within the Kimmel School
Potential recipients of this scholarship shall be identified by the Kimmel School Scholarship Committee, subject to the review of the University Scholarship Committee If you would like to apply for the Hopkins and Ray FIRST
