MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS

Gifted and Talented (GT Testing Request)

 The deadline for students to turn in completed applications to be tested for the Gifted & Talented Program will be October 31, 2016

 All applications (Application and Teacher Letter of Recommendation) will need to be complete before I can order any materials for testing In order to be sure that all students have an opportunity to request testing, a copy of the application will be sent home with each child at BCMA, regardless of their GT Status

LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED TIMELINE (All Students, All Grades)

 Before being dismissed for first period, ALL students MUST be in their assigned areas 8th grade students report to the CAFETERIA No students are allowed to be in

the hallways, classrooms or restrooms WITHOUT PERMISSION

 Locker times: Morning, after being dismissed from their designated areas; Before and

After Lunch; Between 4th and 5th Period

 Dress code: Navy blue polo shirt with BCMA logo, khaki pants/shorts or skirts that are

knee-length, BCMA navy blue sweater or solid blue sweater School I.D must be worn around the neck at all times

ONLY ON FRIDAYS: Blue or black jeans with no tears, cuts or holes, BCMA spirit

t-shirt or college t-shirt

opportunity to read through the two forms that I sent home with your student please take the time to do so Once you have signed both forms please return them to school with

your student Forms were to be returned by Friday October 14

 I will begin meeting with students (and parents if you would like to attend) regarding their High School options If you have any questions please email me at

 Students will work on spelling conventions, grammar and mechanics in order to apply them to their writings

 Students will be able to use knowledge in order to construct a strong piece of writing

Middle of the Academic Week:

 Students will brainstorm persuasive topics and compose a persuasive piece in order to effectively convey point

 Moreover, students will demonstrate knowledge and range of conventions and mechanics through persuasive writing

 Students will also have a rubric by which to construct their writing

 Students will also evaluate one another’s writings in order to provide concise feedback for more effective writing samples (Writer’s Workshop model will be employed)

End of the Academic Week:

 Students will be able to Peer Evaluate writings in order to effectively gauge of partners

have followed the Writer’s Workshop rubric

 Students will also be able to receive feedback on their writing in order to validate the state of their writing and allow students to self-assess their own writing strengths (and

possible weaknesses—in order to improve—possibly through one-to-one tutorials)
