Distinguished Level of

Achievement

A student may earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement by successfully completing the curriculum requirements for the Foundation High School Program and the curriculum

requirements for at least one endorsement required buy the Texas Education Code (TEC), 28.025(b-15), including four credits in science (LT includes Physics) and four credits in mathematics to

include Algebra II

DLA is a requirement for Assured Admission

Dual Credit Performance Acknowledgement: 12 hours of college academic courses with a grade of 3.0 or higher

College Board Advanced Placement Test: As score of 3 or higher on an AP exam

PSAT, SAT, or ACT Acknowledgement

For Juniors it is a chance, depending on Selection

Index Score, to earn National Merit Scholarship

be happy? A place to fish or hike?

• Big School or Small School – what college lifestyle do

you want?

VISIT COLLEGES

• Seniors and Juniors are allowed two days of excused

absence to visit universities

• Fill out and turn in the LTHS College Visit form found

on the Attendance link on the main web page Turn in

the form to Attendance before your trip

• Bring a letter from the universities that you visit They will provide you with the letter Turn the letter in to

Mrs Chalmers in Attendance to excuse your absence.

Assured Admission is a sweet spot where grades and test scores meet the admission requirements of a University

Include one or two schools on your list of 4 - 6 where you know you will be admitted and where you will be happy Schools that you can afford without incurring large student loan debt

GRADES and RANKING

• You will submit a Sixth Semester Transcript with each application Ready August 1, 2020

• A Sixth Semester Transcript will contain your grades

through the end of your junior year

• LTHS is a non-ranking school except for Top 10% as

required by State Law All ranked transcripts are sent electronically via TREX

• DON’T RELEASE RANK There is no advantage

• Schools with deadlines in the fall or January 1 will likely not see your senior grades for admission

GPA – Weighted and

Unweighted

• Two GPA’s are listed on your transcript:

Left side: an average of your weighted grades (100) Right side: unweighted GPA (4.0)

• Each course listed will have a fall and spring semester grade plus an average for the year Semester grades are used to calculate GPA

• Honors points or bump points are not visible on the

transcript Codes indicate the weight of the course

Ordering Transcripts

• Order Official Transcripts from the Registrar in the Main Counseling Office Allow one week to process

• Watch due dates We complete requests in order

• All transcripts sent in-state to Texas public schools will

be sent through the state data system called TREX We can track

• Out-of-state public schools may be mailed or sent

electronically Always choose electronic

• Private and out of state schools may be uploaded into Common Application, Sendedu, and Coalition

SAT/ACT TEST SCORES

• What are acceptable test scores?

• Texas Success Initiative is a good minimum standard

ACT Composite 23, English 19, Math 19

SAT Reading 480, Math 530 No total…

• There is an extra fee, but send scores when you are ready

• Take the writing once Competitive schools may require

• Use the Assured Admission chart to see if your score is high enough

• There is a difference between an Admission test score and a Scholarship test score

Financial Aid, Scholarships, FAFSA

1 Filing FAFSA is No Longer Optional

School Finance Bill (HB3) Included in HB3 is a requirement for all high school students to complete the FAFSA or

TAFSA to graduate, starting with the class of 2021 Students and families may opt-out by requesting waivers Texas is the second state to make FAFSA completion mandatory The first state, Louisiana, saw a dramatic increase in FAFSA

completions and now has the highest completion rate in the country (according to NCAN , June 2019).
