Trang 2The Next Generation
of Internal Audit
Why do you choose to pursue a career
in internal audit?
Because of the opportunities the profession could provide
I was attracted to the idea of traveling and not sitting at a
desk in a cube day all day, but I quickly developed a passion
for the profession after an internship experience and I
became active in my school’s IAEP Program
What is the most important advice
you were given ?
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions.” I have found it useful in
many different aspects in my life Not being afraid to ask
questions has helped me find my confidence and become a
better leader
Do you have any other degrees,
certifications, or licenses?
I have passed the CIA and CISA exams but am not yet
certified I also intend to earn a CISSP certification
What is your dream job? Why?
I want to work with elephants at an elephant sanctuary
This has little to do with my professional interests or career
goals, but I have always been fond of elephants and think
it would be a humbling and rewarding experience to work
with such gentle creatures The great thing about being an internal auditor is that I can develop a skill set that will be applicable across many different fields and jobs
Who are your personal role models? Why?
As cliché as it sounds, my parents and my brother My parents faced many challenges emigrating from Vietnam and establishing themselves in the United States Despite their hardships and the obstacles before them, they never gave
up By comparison, my challenges seem small and trivial Their tenacity inspires me, and their love and support has made me who I am today My brother inspires me because
of how he overcame his own struggles to become successful
in his career He was the biggest influence in getting me interested in internal audit and introducing me to the program Without his influence, I would not have found such
a passion for internal audit

Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) Program with
colleges and universities.
Each year students and educators from IAEP schools and employers are invited to participate in the IAEP Leadership and
Networking Retreat to fill the employment pipeline with highly qualified candidates Employers who have participated in
previous retreats have high praise for this one-of-a-kind event which:
n Reduces the costs and simplifies the logistics
associated with traveling to multiple locations to
recruit qualified talent
n Gives students and employers alike valuable
face-time in a no-pressure setting
n Introduces employers to impeccably trained students ready to hit the ground running on day one
of the job
The spirit and reality of the event is best
captured by Dawn E Jones, CIA, a Deloitte
& Touche director who says,
“THIS PROGRAM GIVES US GREAT ACCESS TO WHAT WE CONSIDER THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE INTERNAL AUDIT PROFESSION.”
Trang 4Future Demand The global market demand for internal auditors far exceeds the professional supply today It is unprecedented and is expected to increase annually as public and private companies and government entities continue to expand their audit needs in response to corporate reforms.
The Skills Today’s employers are seeking candidates who have studied or majored in a wide variety of subjects such
as engineering, economics, marketing, computer science, management information systems, finance,
or business and internal auditing In addition to the formal education requirements, internal auditors need to be well-rounded, logical, business-oriented professionals And since internal auditors work with many people on all levels, exemplary interpersonal and written and oral communication skills are essential Hands-on Training
The best way to learn more about internal auditing is
to sponsor a student internship program An internship will provide candidates with special insights into internal auditing, its working relationships and job-related responsibilities that textbooks cannot offer, not to mention invaluable personal and professional contacts
