POSITION: Assistant Superintendent of Secondary and Special Services
DEPARTMENT: Administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
1 Holds at least a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
2 Holds valid, or is eligible for, NJ School Administrator Certificate
3 Experience in leading curriculum design and implementation and
professional development activities
4 Effective leadership qualities
5 Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a Principal
6 Shall possess the Standard Teacher of the Handicapped Certificate
Certification
7 Effective communication, technology and interpersonal skills
8 Strong management and organizational skills
9 Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching
10.Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning of young children as well as individualized student needs
11 Shall possess a Standard NJ Principal Certificate
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
Develop, administer, and supervise all 6th – 12th grades and adult programs
PK-12 th grade programs insuring that instruction meets or exceeds NJ
Standards
Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of research-based,
innovative, supportive and challenging special education programs, student support services, and nursing services for students in Grades PreK-12
ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1 Assists the superintendent with the in the supervision of every facet of the
educational programs for 6-12 grades and special services
2 Assists the Superintendent with the supervision and evaluation of the work of the school principals in building and district activities, including but not limited to: budget development and management; facility appearance, maintenance, and utilization; program implementation and effectiveness; community and parent involvement, labor relations; and staff and student performance
3 Assists the Superintendent in overseeing the evaluation of the instructional staff by the building principal

4 Evaluates the performance of the directors, assistant directors, principals, supervisors, coordinators, and summer school administrators who are
responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their
respective levels of the school program
5 Ensure fair and consistent implementation of policies, regulations,
procedures, discipline, promotion and graduation requirements
6 Leads Provides oversight in the development of a formalized curriculum
renewal cycle for the educational improvement of the district, which is
annually reviewed and revised, if necessary, and contains a planning cycle of
at least five years This includes articulation of core content curriculum
standards (preschool to twelfth grade as well as the Adult Ed programs) as set forth by the State of New Jersey
7.Coordinates district level meetings with administrative and instructional staff in developing the total school curriculum, and assists in the formation of a
district philosophy and goals, which allows for horizontal and vertical
consistency and articulation of the instructional program
8.Meets regularly with staff the leadership team for the purpose of maintaining
ongoing supervision, coordination and implementation of the district
curriculum educational programs.
9.Provides oversight in Coordinates the evaluation and selection of appropriate
textbooks and instructional materials for educational programs;
10.Provides oversight in Organizes professional committees to investigate,
evaluate, and as appropriate, recommend to the superintendent the adoption
of new instructional materials, technology, methods, and programs
11.Responsible for satisfying all state and federal requirements, summer, gifted, remedial programs, and mandates
12.Supervises grantsmanship and the coordination of all federal & state
discretionary and categorized funds
13.Organizes the implementation of the district’s in-service education program for the instructional and support staff, and recommends teacher attendance at conferences and participation in other professional growth activities
14.Coordinates with the all directors, assistant directors, principals and staff in planning the instructional programs and support services for all regular and special education students
15.Interprets the educational program and needs of the schools to the
community
16.Establishes and maintains positive community relations through parent
advisory committees, newsletters, orientation programs, and workshops 17.Coordinates student assessment and standardized testing program and manages the collection and analysis of district and school student
achievement data
18.Assists in the preparation of the annual budget
19.Attends all Board and Committee meetings as deemed desirable by the Superintendent, and prepares such reports which the Superintendent and the Board may require
20.Advises the Superintendent of any trends in test scores and methods in which test scores may be improved
21.Remains current in field by attending workshops, seminars and conferences and by reviewing current literature
Trang 3Assistant Superintendent of Secondary & Special Services 22.Shares with staff the current research in the areas of curriculum development and teaching and learning, and maintains a curriculum and instruction
reference library for district use
23.Produces curriculum bulletins and/or guides to be distributed to the staff and periodically updates the district website related to curriculum issues
24.Evaluates staff as assigned
25.Provides oversight on Coordinates the annual new teacher induction and
retention program
26.Develops and oversees the adoption and compliance of the district’s a
comprehensive equity plan, including, but not limited to:
a Monitoring implementation of plans and programs
b Maintaining and reporting data as required, including but not limited
to personnel status reports, Federal and State Compliance Reports and updates on employment procedures and practices
c Developing and implementation corrective action plans when necessary
d Developing and implementation strategies designed to prevent and eliminate discriminatory practices and conditions
e Assist the Director of Human Resources with the recruitment and retention of culturally diverse and underrepresented groups by hosting/attending job fairs, visiting HBCU’s and attending multicultural functions
27 Serves as the Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent
28 Performs all other job related duties as may be assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Confidential Central Office Administrator
Twelve Month Contract
Salary to be determined by the Pemberton Township Board of Education Benefits as provided by the Pemberton Township Board of Education and at least equal to those provided to the Pemberton Township Education
Association
