St Mary Catholic High School Announces Recipient of
Initiative Scholarship
(Fox Cities): St Mary Catholic High School is pleased to announce that Noah Johnson is the St Mary Catholic
Schools Recipient of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Initiative Scholarship
The recipient for this scholarship is selected in December by teachers and administrators of the schools that are designated to submit considerations for the 2018 recipient Some of the requirements to receive this scholarship include; overcome personal obstacles or other adversity, have achieved an academic record that represents their maximum effort, show strong promise for succeeding in a postsecondary environment, display outstanding qualities, demonstrate a high level of motivation to achieve and is a resident of Wisconsin
“I am very proud of what Noah has accomplished, particularly with the events of the past year,” Sean Johnson, Noah’s father, said “His drive to overcome and excel has been both a joy — and, quite honesty, a relief — to observe His mother would be extremely proud of him.”
Noah’s mother, Dr Gay W Johnson, was first diagnosed with melanoma just before the start of his freshman year at St Mary Catholic At the time, it appeared she had beaten the disease The cancer reemerged during his junior year and Dr Johnson passed away Aug 8, 2017, just before the start of Noah’s senior year
During that time, Noah Johnson remained engaged at SMC in a wide variety of activities, particularly through his involvement with the soccer and VEX Robotics programs He has also participated in basketball, math team,
Trang 2served as a volunteer for STEM days and works as a counselor at Camp SOAR He has also worked diligently
to challenge himself in the classroom, earning high marks while taking multiple advanced classes
Noah Johnson will attend Wichita State University in the fall of 2018, where he will study aerospace and mechanical engineering
