III.ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

GMAT or GRE

All applicants to the School of Management are required to take the GMAT or the GRE and have the results reported to the University at Buffalo The GMAT/GRE are aptitude tests that measure capabilities important to the study of management at the graduate level

For more information regarding the GMAT test, dates and places of administration, see the GMAT website The GMAT institutional reporting code for the full-time MBA

program is K6RQX67.

The GRE is also accepted for the full-time MBA program The reporting codes for

GRE are 4201 (department code) and 2925 (institutional code).

Applications are viewed holistically While the MBA admissions committee does not have absolute minimums for admission, it is unlikely that prospective students with a score below the 30th percentile on any section of the GMAT or a score of less than

on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE will be admitted

Note: Plan accordingly to allow yourself enough time to prepare for the exam and for the score to be reported by the intended application deadline Incomplete applications will not be considered

English Language Proficiency

All applicants who are not native English speakers, including those who are

transferring from or who have completed degree programs at other U.S colleges or universities, must prove their English language proficiency by taking a standardized test and reporting the score to the University at Buffalo Unofficial score reports may

be uploaded as the admissions office has the ability to verify scores

The following tests are accepted:

•Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The school generally requires a TOEFL score of at least 570 or 230 on the CAT TOEFL for admission The IBT TOEFL is also accepted, with a preferred score of 95

or better and no section lower than 22 Your TOEFL score report must be dated within

two years of applying to this university The school code and department code for the

University at Buffalo are 2925 and 02, respectively For more information, visit the

•Pearson Test of English (PTE)

The university has established minimum acceptable scores at a 73 total and a

minimum of 68 on each of the individual sections of the PTE Students who enter the program with the PTE will be required to take an institutional TOEFL after arrival at the university at no cost For more information, visit the PTE website

•International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The university requires a score of 6.5 overall with no section less than 6.0 The school reporting code is 4454 For more information, visit the IELTS website.

Score reports expire two years from the date the exam is taken Be sure to submit valid score reports Additionally, plan accordingly to allow yourself enough time to prepare for the exam and for the score to be reported by the intended application deadline Incomplete applications will not be considered If admitted, you will need to submit an official score report to finalize admission

What constitutes work experience?

Work experience is defined as full-time employment after completing a bachelor's degree While co-op, internship and part-time work experience is valuable to your application and in the MBA classroom, AACSB reporting standards require us to report post-bachelor's work experience

Do you count military experience as work experience?

Yes, we believe military experience is valuable and encourage former military

personnel to apply to our program, as they have proven leadership and interpersonal skills As noted above, we can only report experience post-bachelor's, however, military experience completed before finishing your degree will positively impact your application and is often viewed favorably by employers

What is the average GMAT/GRE score?

For the fall 2017 incoming class, the average GMAT score for our enrolled students

was 613 We evaluate each candidate’s overall application when making admissions

decisions We also accept the GRE For the fall 2017 incoming class, the average

GRE score for our enrolled students was 151 on the verbal and 152 on the quantitative sections

characteristics of the applicant that would be considered strengths and characteristics that would be considered weaknesses You will be notified by automated email when

the application deadline for admissions consideration No exceptions will be made Letters should be uploaded as PDFs.

The best recommenders are those who can comment on your academic and

professional qualifications; current/former professors and current/former employers are desirable Recommendation letters must be uploaded as PDFs and must be

received directly from the recommenders Those sent from applicants will not be considered valid

Unofficial transcripts should be uploaded as a PDF to the Graduate Application site

for admissions review Upload the front and back of transcripts (if back is blank, you

do not need to upload the back) The site checklist has more than one line item for transcripts; if you only attended one undergraduate institution, you may ignore the second item Transcripts for all undergraduate credits (including transfer, A.P., etc.) must be uploaded for admissions consideration We will not consider your application until you upload all undergraduate transcripts

V SOP/ESSAY/WRITING SAMPLE

Personal Statements

Two personal statements are required as follows:

1 Describe your short-term and long-term career objectives Be as specific as you can concerning the types of positions and responsibility levels to which you aspire Describe how earning the UB MBA will help you achieve your goals

2 Submit a response to ONE of the following three topics:

˙Describe a time you were leading a group that faced a significant problem How were you able to resolve it in a positive manner?

˙Describe a time when your ethics were challenged How did you deal with the situation and what did you learn from it?

˙Describe a time when you had a significant misunderstanding with someone from a different background or culture How did you resolve the

misunderstanding?

Each personal statement should be uploaded as a PDF through the Graduate

Application site Document length for each statement should be approximately 700

words Be sure to include your full name identical to that used on the Graduate

Application site

Résumé

Submit a résumé showing relevant education and work experience Include months and years of employment (i.e MM/YY - MM/YY) Your résumé should be uploaded

VI ADDITIONAL NOTE FOR INT’L APPLICANT

International Transcripts

Chinese academic documents must be provided in original language and in English

Both versions are required for admissions consideration Chinese applicants should also upload a copy of their degree certificate provided in original language and in English.

If offered admission, you must submit an official transcript from every

post-secondary institution attended to finalize admission Further instructions will be provided in your I-20 package regarding the documents that you must bring to

campus Review the instructions included in the I-20 package Do not send documents via postal mail or email, as they will be discarded

WES Evaluation

For students receiving undergraduate degrees outside of the United States, we

encourage submission of the World Education Services (WES) Basic Course-by-Course Evaluation in addition to unofficial transcripts This evaluation is

encouraged, but not requir ed If you choose to upload a copy of this report along

with your transcripts, remove the password protection prior to uploading the PDF

Proof of degree or provisional certificate

All Indian and Chinese applicants must upload a copy of their proof of degree or provisional certificate (if proof of degree has not been issued yet) Upload this

document as a PDF through the Graduate Application website

Financial Documentation

All international applicants must document their ability to meet all educational and personal expenses for the entire period of intended study before this university can issue an I-20 or IAP-66

No certificate of eligibility will be issued without satisfactory financial

documentation Financial documentation is required for I-20 and visa issuance This documentation is not required for admissions consideration and may be submitted after you receive an admissions decision, but we recommend that you submit it with your application to avoid potential delays in the issuance of your I-20
