LOG IN TO THE WVU PORTAL

Now that you’re admitted, it’s time to get

connected It’s easy — go to login.wvu.edu and

click on Claim Account Enter your name, date of

birth and the WVU ID provided on your enclosed

WVU acceptance letter You will then receive the

information needed to access the WVU Portal

YOUR NEXT STEPS.

From here, go to students.wvu.edu and enter the WVU Portal where you can access your Mountaineer Information Xpress (MIX) email, connect to STAR, DegreeWorks and eCampus — programs vital to your WVU experience Use the WVU Portal to complete the first step required to enroll at WVU — paying your academic deposit — and check your MIX email often for important updates

2 Follow the posted instructions to pay your academic deposit

The deposit is fully refundable until December 1 for the spring term and May 1 for the fall term Deposits made after these refund dates are nonrefundable Your academic deposit is credited toward any tuition or fees you may owe and can be paid by eCheck or debit card, MasterCard, Visa or Discover

HOW DO I VISIT CAMPUS?

If you haven’t already been here, it’s a great idea

for you and your family to visit before Transfer

Academy Through the Visitors Center you can

learn about admissions, costs and campus life

and discover Morgantown — one of the nation’s best small cities

You can even talk with faculty or sit in on a class (No quizzes We

promise.) If you want to meet a specific department representative

or attend a class, just ask when you make your reservation

Tours are offered twice daily, Monday-Saturday (admissions

presentation is not available on Saturdays) A tour just for transfer

students is offered every Friday at 10 a.m This tour does not stop

at a residence hall or dining facility WVU also hosts open house

AM I ELIGIBLE?

WVU awarded nearly $48 million in grants and

scholarships last year The minimum scholarship

eligibility requirements for transfer students are:

3.0 cumulative GPA and 30 hours

Student must have earned between 15 and 78

post-high school transferable credit hours

HOW DO I GET A WVU SCHOLARSHIP?

You are already being considered — all you had to do was

apply to WVU Students who’ve completed the admissions

process by the February 1 scholarship deadline receive

priority consideration for WVU scholarships

WHAT KINDS OF SCHOLARSHIPS

DOES WVU OFFER?

Transfer scholarships are available to students who submit their

transfer admission application to WVU by July 1

Transfer scholarships range in value from $1,000 per year up

to $2,000 per year for West Virginia resident students and from

$2,500 per year to $5,000 per year for non-residents Students

who have at least a 3.0 transfer GPA and a minimum of 15

transferable hours/maximum of 78 transferable hours to WVU

are eligible for consideration

Scholarship award letters are usually sent out in early spring For

students transferring to WVU during a spring semester, the same

GPA and hours requirements exist, but the deadline to apply for

admission is November 15.

Other scholarships are available within your department You

also should investigate private scholarship sources to help fund

your education

WHAT IS THE FAFSA?

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Depending on your FAFSA results, you may qualify for grants, loans and/or work-study Some scholarships require submission of the FAFSA to determine financial need

WHEN DO I FILE THE FAFSA?

The FAFSA is available October 1 Submit your FAFSA before March 1 for priority consideration of all aid programs However,

the earlier you file, the better! We will begin sending financial aid award offers to admitted students with a FAFSA on file as early

as December, on a rolling basis

WHAT TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID ARE THERE?

In addition to scholarships, there are three types:

Grants – typically need-based, these awards do not need to

be paid back

Loans – money you and/or your family borrows, which must

be repaid

Work-study – you will apply for a job on or off campus that allows you to work around your class schedule and earn funds throughout the academic year

Apply for on-campus housing if you are transferring with fewer than 29 hours If you are entering WVU with 29 or more hours, you may choose from University Apartments and other off-campus housing Directions for both options are given at admissions.wvu.edu/admitted/

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE THAN 29 HOURS?

If you are transferring with 29 hours or more, you can live off-campus or in one of our four on-off-campus apartment complexes

WVU has four great places to call home — University Place, University Park, College Park and Vandalia Hall — and all offer luxury living close to campus Choosing to live in a University Apartment has lots of benefits:

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Pay your academic deposit if applicable

Wait 48 hours and log on to portal.wvu.edu to complete the housing application

Submit the housing deposit

Select your top-three residence hall choices

An assigned date will be sent to your MIX email address (keep checking!), based on when we receive your housing deposit

On your assigned date, access myhousing.wvu.edu Better start thinking about posters for your walls

CHOOSE A DINING PLAN - IT’S DINNER TIME! (AND LUNCH, AND BREAKFAST)

All students living in WVU residence halls are required to have a dining plan If you are living off campus or commuting, you have the option of purchasing a nonresident plan You can use your plan at any WVU Dining Services location – and there are 27 sites

MOVE IN – YOU’RE HOME!

Move-in day will be here before you know it! If you plan to live in a WVU residence hall, you will receive info

at your MIX email address, so please check it regularly

You’ll receive lots of help during the actual move, and there’s even an “I Survived Move-In” reception for your parents, where they can grab a cold drink and a snack before heading home – and tissues, for when they get emotional

We award transfer credit based on an

evaluation of your prior academic work This

evaluation won’t be finalized until you enroll

at WVU, but you can view a preliminary evaluation before

enrollment Go to

If you are currently enrolled at an institution other than a

WVU branch campus, ask your registrar to forward an

official transcript that shows all courses completed at

the end of the current semester If you are student at one

of WVU’s branch campuses, your transcript is already

in the STAR system The WVU Office of Admissions will

accept official transcripts from your college registrar via

Parchment, E-Scripts, National Clearing House or in an

officially sealed envelope

Any student who is transferring to WVU having earned between

14 and 34 credit hours and a 3.7 cumulative GPA without an I or

W on their transcript can apply to the Honors College

Transfer students will also need to submit transcripts directly

to the Honors Office from all collegiate institutions they have

attended; only Honors credit from other National Collegiate

Honors Council member institutions will be honored.

STUDENT INSURANCE

All WVU students must be covered by health insurance

You will be enrolled automatically and billed for WVU’s Aetna student health insurance plan when your fees are assessed

If you already are covered on a health insurance plan (like your parents’) you can opt out of the Aetna plan and avoid the fee by submitting a health insurance waiver form You will need to complete this waiver every year

MATH AND CHEMISTRY PLACEMENT EXAM (ALEKS)

Because we want to make sure you are placed into math and chemistry courses where you will succeed, we base placement on successful completion of prerequisite courses or on placement scores (ACT math score, SAT math score or scores on the ALEKS Math Assessment)
