to the basement level of the middle

building of the Extension Center

Complex The move date is uncertain

If you plan to stop by our office after September 30th, please call us first to find out where we are.

Meeting Room Information

The clubs that meet regularly in

the Extension Center will continue to

meet there through September

Regularly scheduled meetings after

September 30, 2003 will take place in

the Route 12 building We have not

been given priority access to the

meeting rooms nor have we been given

the ability to schedule meeting rooms

ourselves If you would like to request the use of a meeting room please call county administration directly at 788-1104, during their office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m Please inform them immediately if you are canceling

a meeting or find that you do not need the space reserved for you

The 4-H Association makes

important decisions regarding events

and activities during the year These

decisions affect every club If you

want your voice to be heard, please

join us the third Thursday of every other month After September 30th, please call our office the day of the meeting to confirm the location

New 4-H Calendar

We are printing a Hunterdon

County 4-H Calendar We hope to

include the dates of all of our county

and club events If you have any

dates that you would like to put in

the calendar please get them to the

meetings, study sessions for state competitions, etc., are welcome!

See the “Keep up the Good Work”

Section of this newsletter for the names of the winning entries

Member Registration Forms

Our mailing list needs to be

up-to-date for mailing and insurance

purposes If your members have not

completed and submitted a

registration form to our office, they

are not registered Please make sure

the 4-H office has a complete and

accurate membership form for all of your club members including email addresses for those who have them Please remember to inform us as well when email addresses change and when a member drops out Thank you!

Club Treasury

In order to comply with county,

state and national non-profit, 4-H and

IRS regulations, clubs must submit a

club/council financial plan for the

new 4-H year and an audit of this

past 4-H year to the 4-H office by

necessary if the club treasury is

$100.00 or more at any time in the 4-H year Club fundraising projects must be pre-approved by the County 4-H Agent and 4-H Association

Merit Award by filling out the Club

Keep Up the Good Work Corner

The fair was FANTASTIC!

Thank you for all of your hard work

and dedication It takes an

overwhelming amount of behind the

scenes work and funding to organize

the fair beyond what we do in our 4-H

clubs and our 4-H preparations for

the fair Please take every

opportunity to thank the volunteer

Fair Committee, the Freeholders and

the County Road, Parks, and Buildings

& Grounds Departments because

without their hard work and

dedication we would not have a fair

We are so fortunate to have such

dedicated freeholders, county workers and volunteers We are also grateful to the ongoing support of the Kuhl family in allowing us to use their property to hose the fair

We’re looking forward to an even more outstanding fair at the South County Park (new fairgrounds)

in Ringoes next summer! Thank you for all you do!

State Presentation Bowl Participants

competition held on the Busch College

Judging is not easy but, we know you did a great job There were over 140 participants this year and we’re proud

of all of you who contributed

Congratulations to Equine Art Show Participants

The Equine Art Show was held

on June 28th Congratulations to

Tracey Everitt, and Mary Heffner

both of Round Valley Riders for

participating in this event We are

very proud of you!

Our extended congratulations

go to Mary Heffner for First Place in

the Black and White Flat Senior Division, First and Second Place in the Flat, Oils and Acrylics Division, and Overall Champion Sr Division and Overall Champion Award Way to Go Mary! {P.S Don’t forget that Mary did the great art work for our Fair T-Shirts!}

Bobbins-Karen Cito, and all of the

club members and parents who

July Float a masterpiece It takes a

lot of hands, time and talent to create

a spectacular design and build an

award-winning float Your hard work earned the trophy on display in the

4-H office for "Best Children's

Float" Thanks again to all the

families who helped construct and dismantle the float and to all who rode on the float and promoted our county 4-H program

Car Wash and Petting Zoo

The car wash and petting zoo

was a huge success Special thanks go

to Willow Creek Nursery in Ringoes

for their hospitality and support in

hosting this event We appreciate the

use of all their hoses and their

greenhouse, which housed our animal

display We want to express a huge

thank you to all of the 4-H families,

who brought animals, snacks, drinks

and equipment for washing cars All your efforts were greatly

appreciated The amount of participation in this event was

terrific Participating clubs included:

Rockin' Bobbins, Fur and Feathers, Kick Butt Kids, Mt Airy Dairy, Round Valley Riders, Hunterdon Hoppers, Hunterdon County Sheep, The Animal Club and Clover Bunch

Congratulations to Jessica

Cito, Jonathan Freedley, and Julie

Perrine, our 2003-04 Hunterdon

County 4-H Ambassadors Jessica,

Jonathan, and Julie are three

outstanding teens who exemplify 4-H

Leadership, Achievement, and

Responsibility They will preside over

4-H events and represent our county 4-H Program at various community events throughout the 2003-2004 4-H year

the great work they did as our

2002-2003 Ambassadors

Congratulations Lauren Callahan

The Seeing Eye, Inc has

awarded Lauren Callahan from the

4-Paws to Freedom Seeing Eye Club,

a scholarship to Rowan University

Lauren has been awarded this

scholarship for her eleven years of

service to the Seeing Eye Foundation Lauren has enhanced the lives of many people with severely impaired vision

by raising puppies to serve as their guide dogs We are proud of you Lauren!

Way to Go Lindsay DeHartchuck!

Lindsay did a great job with her

"Tools For School" Community

Service Project Thanks to her

efforts many disadvantaged

Hunterdon youth will have the supplies

they need for the school year The

act of one caring individual can make a great difference in many lives Thank you Lindsay and thank you to all who donated supplies By working together

we can truly make this world a better place!

Lindsay DeHartchuck would like

to personally thank all of the 4-H

clubs and individuals who donated to

her “Tools For School” project She

was able to donate approximately

$1,500 worth of school supplies to

families in need via the Flemington Food Pantry Forty backpacks, thousands of pens and pencils and hundreds of notebooks were distributed in time for the school year!

Community Service

Fan Mail for our Service Men and Women

Although we are very happy

that our 4-H Alumni, Norman Strauss

is home from the Middle East, many

of our nation’s service men and women

are still far from home Fan mail from

us really helps boost their morale

The 4-H office recently received guidelines to follow to get mail to them Please stop by the office for a copy of the guidelines and check out the website:

October 19th-25th is National

CHARACTER COUNTS week It’s a

great time to make a special effort to

practice, improve and celebrate the six pillars of character:

Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship

National Make a Difference Day

The purpose of Make a

Difference Day, is to encourage

people to do special projects to help

others and make the world a better

place It is a great time for individuals and 4-H clubs to do a new community service project

Morales Park Work Day

Morales Park in Flemington

invites 4-H clubs to participate in

their annual fall and spring workdays

held the first Saturday of November

and June The fall workday is

November 1, 2003 The spring

workday is June 5, 2004 For more

information on how your club can participate, please contact Fritzie Wald at 782-6737 It's a great experience in a beautiful Nature Preserve

County Events

“Touch of Autumn”

All 4-H clubs are asked to help

with our “Touch of Autumn” event to

be held at the (old) Extension Center

(Route 31) on September 20th Every

club is asked to bring as many home

baked goods as possible to the

Extension Center Friday afternoon or

early Saturday morning (Pies are

especially popular.) Clubs are also

asked to provide workers the day of

the event We need food servers,

free activities and crafts for kids,

4-H project animal exhibits, and many

strong arms and backs for clean up Recruit your friends, neighbors, and the weightlifting section of your gym Please call the 4-H office or Louisa Cole (369-4184) and let us know how you and your club can help 

Fall Festival so please channel all of your early fall time, energy and resources into the “Touch of Autumn”.

National 4-H Week Club Photo and Article

Don’t forget to get your club

photo and club story (150 words) to

the 4-H office by September 23rd so

we will have a great 4-H supplement in the Democrat in celebration of

National 4-H Week

Wear a 4-H T-shirt (4-H and

Agricultural Fair T-shirts are

available at the 4-H office.) Invite

friends to your club meeting Talk to your class about 4-H Tell everyone how 4-H helps you to do and be your best Look for the National 4-H Week section of the Democrat! 

Exciting 4-H Hockey Opportunity

The Philadelphia Flyers will be

hosting a 4-H night at their game

against the Binghamton Senators,

Friday, October 10th, 7:00 p.m in

honor of National 4-H Week

Discounted tickets are available for

4-H members, leaders, and families

Clubs who give their 4-H Club name

when purchasing tickets will have their club name on the lighted board during the game Clubs can also display club banners Contact Ned Bloom @ 215-952-5784 for ticket information and let us know if you are participating

Record Book Judging

approaching There have been

changes to Record Book Information

Be sure to stop in our office and pick

up the new forms as soon as possible

"How to Assemble your Record Book"

instruction sheet can be found on our

website, or by calling the 4-H office

788-1340 Please use this as a guide for assembling your record book for judging Please call our office to find out where to bring your book
