The higher education landscape in the UK is undergoing a major transformation amidst
a backdrop of very severe cuts in public spending from which universities are notspared At the same time the demands on universities, whether from their students, local and regional communities or national expectations, are increasing, as is thecompetitive nature of the higher education environment nationally and internationally. The University of Hull has, throughout its proud history of more than eighty years, always risen to the occasion, and has again articulated a vision and mission that willsteer it through difficult times to even greater heights

“…advance education, scholarship, knowledge and understanding by teaching
and research, for the benefit of individuals and society at large”
Royal Charter, University of Hull, 1954
We believe that universities have a responsibility to create, shape and develop a betterfuture for the individual and for society; envisioning how things could be and not merelyaccepting things as they are The University of Hull was founded on this principle andwith an established international reputation for academic excellence the Universityremains committed to ensuring that its vital work of knowledge advancement continues
