NJCU’S TONEY & RAMAPO’S FORD 2017-18 NJAC PLAYER AND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Pitman, NJ—New Jersey City University sophomore forward Sam Toney (Plainfield,
NJ/Williamstown) and Ramapo College senior guard Josh Ford (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) have been
selected as the “Pony Wilson” Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and the league Defensive Player
of the Year respectively in the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the 2017-18 season Their selections highlighted the 16-member 2017-18 NJAC men’s basketball all-conference team which was announced on February 21 All selections were made via a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches and were based on conference-only statistics
A two-time all-conference selection, Toney finished the NJAC regular season as the league-leader in both conference-only scoring (21.9 points per game) and conference-only rebounding (11.1 per game) A three-time NJAC Player of the Week selection this season, he also ranked fourth in conference-only free throw percentage (.857); sixth in conference-only three-point field goals made per game (2.3); and seventh in conference-only field goal percentage (.488) The third sophomore to
be named NJAC Player of the Year and the first men’s basketball player in league history to be named NJAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in consecutive seasons, Toney finished the regular season ranked in the Top 10 of eight different conference-only statistical categories
Ford was tapped as the league’s top defender after helping the Roadrunners secure their second consecutive NJAC regular season title He was the top defender on a Ramapo squad which finished the NJAC season as the team leader in conference-only scoring defense (66.3 points allowed per game); conference-only field goal percentage defense (.389); and conference-only three-point field goal percentage defense (.323) Individually, Ford ranked 12th in conference-only field goal percentage (.465) and 19th in conference-only assists (2.4 per game)
Montclair State University freshman guard Myles Mitchell-White (Trenton, NJ/Lawrence)
was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year A nine-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection during the 2017-18 season, Mitchell-White finished his first NJAC season ranked third in conference-only assists (4.3 per game) and sixth in conference-only field goal percentage (.494) A first-team honoree and the only rookie named to the all-conference squad, he also ranked eighth in conference-only scoring (14.6 points per game)
The College of New Jersey’s head coach Matt Goldsmith was named the “John K Adams”
Coach of the Year by his peers Goldsmith took a Lions squad which was picked to finish sixth in the NJAC preseason coaches poll and guided it to an NJAC regular season runner-up finish with a 14-4 mark in league play With a 19-6 overall record so far in 2017-18, Goldsmith has accumulated a mark
of 53-26 overall during his first three seasons in Ewing
