DISTRICT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:

How to develop programs for

school-family-community partnerships

to help increase student success

There is no topic in education on which there is greater agreement than the need for

"parent involvement." No longer an optional activity or a matter of public relations; school, family, and community partnerships are essential for student learning and success in school It takes time, organization, and effort to develop good partnership programs

Everyone wants effective involvement, but most districts and schools need help in how to develop productive programs of school-family-community partnerships.

This workshop will provide each school district with a research-based approach to develop excellent programs of family and community involvement Attendees will

be prepared to guide their elementary, middle, and high schools in developing goal-oriented partnership programs to increase student achievement and success in school PLEASE NOTE: This training will be limited to 2 leaders per school district

or educational cooperative who will be responsible for training personnel in their respective school districts, providing the required in-service training to meet the requirements of Act 603 The workshop is limited to the first 300 registrants, so register early.

Joyce L Epstein (Ph.D., Sociology, Johns Hopkins University) is Director of the Center on School, Family, and Community

improvement She has been nationally recognized for her work on school, family, and community partnerships

District leaders will learn about Dr Epstein’s framework of six types

of involvement, challenges that must be met to reach all families,

how to link family involvement to school improvement goals, and

how to train school teams to conduct school-based partnership

programs The approaches, guided by the National Network of

Partnership Schools at Johns Hopkins University, fulfill

requirements for family and community involvement in the No Child
